Arsenal transfer news LIVE: Gunners ‘eye Andrey Santos’, Real Madrid want Raya EXCLUSIVE, Zubimendi a ‘done deal’

  • Arsenal transfer targets

Newcastle star Alexander Isak is top of Arsenal's striker wishlist but could cost a fee in the region of £150million.

SunSport revealed that Eintracht Frankfurt ace Hugo Ekitike is being targeted as a cheaper £60m alternative.

Other targets include long-desired RB Leipzig's Benjamin Sesko and Sporting Lisbon's Viktor Gyokeres.

Athletic Bilbao's Nico Williams is another attacking target but as with the previous names, could prove financially difficult due to his large wages.

Midfield strengthening will depend on how talks develop with Thomas Partey but there is already an agreement to splash out £51m on Real Sociedad's Martin Zubimendi.

Finally, well-admired Bournemouth's Dean Huijsen is being explored as an option with Borussia Dortmund winger Jamie Gittens and Espanyol goalkeeper Joan Garcia linked to the club as well.

  • Neville and Carragher's Arsenal row

Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher had a heated row with Manchester United icon Gary Neville over his Premier League title predictions.

Neville said Arsenal would be crowned champions before a ball was kicked this season.

But speaking ahead of the Gunners drawing 2-2 with the title winners, the pundit blamed them falling short on not signing a striker.

It's obvious when you look at the situation they're in right now about the striker and I'm sure they'll rectify that in the summer and bring someone in.

But were you [Neville] saying this at the start of the season about a striker, why did you tip them for the league at the start of the season?

You tipped them for the league at the start of the season, so don't now talk about because they've had injuries up front they need a striker.

  • Transfer deadline change

The summer transfer window will close four hours earlier than usual.

But fears that Prem clubs could be exposed to losing players after incoming business ends appear to have been eased.

Prem and EFL chiefs, with the agreement of clubs in both leagues, have agreed that signings or paperwork will have to be lodged by 7pm on September 1.

Clubs who send a notice to register players will still have two hours to complete any deals between English clubs and allow them to play for their new sides.

For signing from overseas, there will be an additional two hours to complete all the paperwork.

The move from the 11pm closure is viewed as a way of preventing club staff and administrators having to burn the midnight oil well into the early hours when late-agreed deals are pushed through.

  • Mikel Arteta rant

Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta slammed the performance of his team after coming back from behind to draw with Liverpool.

A lot of parts, especially defending the standards that we have and the errors after we gave the ball away.

Very far off it. Really upset, yeah we had a reaction. I hate reaction I like action.

I was really, really upset. What I saw in the first 25 minutes, 35 minutes. Some of the actions...I was killing myself.

  • Schmeichel slams Arteta

Manchester United legend Peter Schmeichel has slammed Mikel Arteta as a "control freak" who is making Arsenal players "worse".

It's all on Arteta, all. What I’m saying is that he was employed as head coach. He inherited the team and that team is the only team that he has won a trophy with.

Then it’s his own team now and in the process he’s changed job description so he’s now the manager. Everything is on him. It’s not recruitment, it’s not the board.

I would urge the viewer whenever they get the opportunity to watch him in the technical area. Arteta is a control freak, he wants his players to play the ball that he wants. He’s directing everything.

You look across to Arne Slot who is so calm. He’s instructed his players in training, instructed the players in the team talk.

Arteta is still playing the game for the players and that would confuse the hell out of me as a football player that you had a coach that wants to direct me for everything I do. It would confuse me and make me a worse player.

  • Declan Rice 'future'

Some Arsenal stars may start to consider their future if the club fails to win any silverware next season - including Declan Rice, according to Jamie Carragher.

Carragher said when asked if he thinks Rice especially could be doubting his time at the Emirates:

I don't think right now. I think for other players maybe in the team who have been there a little bit longer.

In terms of Declan, I think he's been Arsenal's best player this season. I'm not saying he'd give it another 12 months, but I think those doubts maybe kick in in another 12 months.

It might be different for somebody like a [William] Saliba, who has been there a little bit longer and is desperate to get his hands on some silverware.

I don't think there will be any thoughts like that right now, I think they all feel they're really close.

They are very close, but we all know as players the final step is the biggest one.

  • Williams, and potential alternatives

Athletic Bilbao star Nico Williams is Arsenal's top target for the left wing this summer.

The Gunners' sporting director Andrea Berta is pushing to sign Williams, whose release clause is said to be around £50million.

Reports suggest Borussia Dortmund's Jamie Gittens and AC Milan's Rafael Leao are possible alternatives should a deal for the Spain international not happen.

The 22-year-old has attracted immense interest from other European giants ahead of the summer transfer window.

  • Martin Zubimendi details

Arsenal have "agreed a deal" to sign Real Sociedad star Martin Zubimendi ahead of the summer transfer window.

According to transfer insider Fabrizio Romano, the Gunners have finally agreed to meet Zubimendi's release clause worth a whopping £50million.

Mikel Arteta's side will now have to take "formal steps" to meet the midfielder's expensive asking price.

The Spain international has also reached a verbal agreement with the North Londoners.

Zubimendi is now set to sign a "long-term" deal and become Arsenal's first signing of the summer.

  • David Raya details

Real Madrid are keeping tabs on Arsenal goalkeeper David Raya and Brighton keeper Bart Verbruggen ahead of the summer transfer window.

But Raya and Verbruggen would have to start on Real's bench as the plan would be to turn one of them to Thibaut Courtois' long-term successor.

Los Blancos could sell Andriy Lunin who has been happy to cover for Courtois over the last five years.

Nevertheless, landing Raya would be harder to pull off than Verbruggen.

  • Russo wins Golden Boot

Arsenal striker Alessia Russo won the WSL Golden Boot award at the weekend. The England international scored 12 goals for the Gunners this season.

  • Gyokeres ‘chooses his Prem club’

Viktor Gyokeres is expected to choose Arsenal over Manchester United in one of this summer’s biggest transfers.

Sporting Lisbon could be willing to sell the long-time Prem target for around £58.5million – £25m below his release clause.

Now talkSPORT suggest top-flight rivals believe the Gunners are winning the race to recruit the 26-year-old.

Fellow Swede Alexander Isak, 25, could cost £100m-plus.

  • Gunners ‘agree’ to sign Zubimendi

Arsenal have agreed to sign Real Sociedad star Martin Zubimendi ahead of the summer transfer window, according to multiple reports.

The Gunners have been keeping tabs on Zubimendi, 26, since last summer following a raft of impressive displays with Sociedad and have beaten Real Madrid to his signature.

Arsenal have finally agreed to meet the midfielder’s release clause worth a whopping £50million.

Mikel Arteta’s side will now have to take “formal steps” to meet the player’s expensive asking price.

The Spain international has also reached a verbal agreement with the Premier League giants.

Zubimendi is set to sign a “long-term” deal and become Arsenal’s first signing of the summer.

  • 'We knew that'

Mikel Arteta admits his Arsenal squad was too small to challenge Liverpool for the Prem title.

The Spaniard said: “There are a lot of factors. We knew from the beginning of the season that our squad was super short.

“Being super short we had some players that had a high probability of getting injured, because that’s what they had in the last few seasons.

“So we knew that and we cannot do anything about it.

"But we will do everything that we can to improve the team and especially improve the players that we already have.

“That is not something we have just started to talk about now. If we were only having those meetings now we would be doing it very late.

“Whatever the market offers to give us a better chance to win for sure we will try to do it.

“Over the season there are many things you need to go your way.

“In the clinical moments, does the ball hit the post and come out, or go in? That's the fine margins.

“What we have to try to do is to amplify the margins. The bigger the margins are, even if those things happen, then it will be very difficult for the opposition.

“We have to do it our way. We have to be authentic with ourselves and what we believe, what we can do and what we've been doing. That's it.”

  • Arteta's rant
