And the north Londoners are moving quickly to acquire the services of the Spain international, who was linked with moves to Liverpool and Real Madrid.

That's according to The BBC, who claim the 26-year-old is "set to have a medical" with the club in the coming days.

The £51million move is said to be "entering its closing stages."

The paperwork has reportedly been completed and both clubs are said to be confident the medical will be nothing more than a mere formality.

Zubimendi's arrival could spark a slew of arrivals at the Emirates this summer.

Arteta is eyeing several reinforcements in the coming months to boost his side's chances of winning the Champions League and Premier League.

Securing more firepower is understood to be one of the Gunners' chief's top priorities following their failed bids to win the Prem and Europe's elite club competition.

And the Spaniard - who is an admirer of Sporting Lisbon and RB Leipzig stars Viktor Gyokeres and Benjamin Sesko - is looking forward to the summer ahead, which he's promised the Emirates faithful will be "BIG".

"Because the turnaround of players and the objective of those windows was going to be different.

"But as well, we want to increase the quality and the skills that we need to go to the next step.”
