Man Utd transfer news LIVE: De Ligt ‘agreement close’, Greenwood exit ‘AGREED’, Zirkzee ‘set to join United’ – updates

  • Mason Greenwood backlash

Marseille have reached a £27million deal to sign Mason Greenwood from Manchester United.

Greenwood was suspended by United back in January 2022 before being charged nine months later of attempted rape, assault, and controlling and coercive behaviour towards a woman.

The controversial forward denied the claims, with all criminal charges eventually dropped in February 2023.

However, L'OM fans have started a campaign called #GreenwoodNotWelcome, imploring club chiefs to abandon their pursuit or risk doing “irreversible damage”.

Marseille mayor Benoit Payan was also outraged by the news, telling RMC: “I do not want my club to be covered in shame. It is not acceptable.”

  • Keane slams England fans

Manchester United legend Roy Keane criticised the "arrogance" of England fans for "expecting to win every major tournament for 30 years".

You talk about England not having won anything for 30, 40 years, that's not on this group of players.

Focus on winning the game of football and history will take care of itself.

When you talk about the weight of the jersey, I think there's a bit of arrogance that comes with that.

The consequences of a mistake, that is part of top level sport, you have to deal with that and over the years maybe they haven't done that well enough.

  • Kobbie Mainoo's proud mum

Manchester United star Kobbie Mainoo shared a picture of his beaming mum after helping fire England into the Euro 2024 final.

Mainoo was brought to Germany as a back-up by manager Gareth Southgate but has emerged as the Three Lions' key kid this summer.

At just 19 years and 82 days old, the midfielder became the youngest player to play in a semi-final of a major tournament for the national team.

To share his excitement at reaching his first ever major international final, Mainoo posted a heartfelt carousel on Instagram of his family proudly watching him from the stands.

One picture in particular that stood out was his proud mother dressed in England gear grinning at the camera.

  • Zirkzee personal terms

Manchester United are close to sealing a deal to sign Bologna star Joshua Zirkzee.

United have agreed terms with Zirkzee but are yet to decide on how to structure a deal with the Serie A giants.

Transfer insider Fabrizio Romano reported that the terms have been sorted out between the striker and the Red Devils.

Romano also claimed that the Manchester giants need to decide on paying the Netherlands international's £34million release clause.

It is suggested that United could negotiate new terms with the Italian side over the structure of the deal.

  • Jarrad Branthwaite transfer blow

Everton have rejected Manchester United’s latest bid for Jarrad Branthwaite.

The Toffees also maintain they will not sell Branthwaite for a cut-price fee during the summer transfer window.

United made a second bid worth £45million plus £5m in add-ons for the 21-year-old.

That followed last month’s offer of £35m plus £10m in add-ons which was also immediately rejected.

  • Marc Guehi Exclusive

Arsenal and Manchester United are on high alert with Crystal Palace star Marc Guehi set to reject a new contract from his club.

Palace want Guehi to sign a new deal which would include a release clause when he returns from Euro 2024 but SunSport has now learned he has no intention of doing so.

The defender, whose contract runs out in 2026, is understood to be keen to explore his options this summer amidst interest from United and the Gunners.

The Red Devils are particularly impressed with the ease with which the 23-year-old has adapted to playing as England’s left-sided centre-back in Germany despite being right footed.

  • Greenwood heading to Marseille

Manchester United have reached a deal to sell Mason Greenwood to Marseille.

United have accepted a €31.6million (£26.7m) offer for Greenwood from L'OM, with the controversial forward set to sign for the Ligue 1 giants subject to his terms being finalised.

The deal will include €4m (£3.4m) and a sell-on clause of 40-50 per cent of any fee.

The ex-England international's troubled Old Trafford career is now set to come to an end.

In October 2022 the 22-year-old was charged with attempted rape, controlling and coercive behaviour and assault occasioning actual bodily harm.

Greenwood denied all the counts and the criminal charges were dropped in February 2023 after key witnesses withdrew their cooperation from the investigation and new material came to light, according to the Crown Prosecution Service.

  • All the best Fer the future, Donny

Manchester United skipper Bruno Fernandes has wished Donny van de Beek well after the midfielder's own goodbye message.

The Netherlands midfielder, 27, is off to Spanish top-flight club Girona for around £423k - although add-ons could eventually take the deal close to £9m.

It follows four frustrating years at Old Trafford after arriving from Ajax for £35m plus extras.

VDB wrote: "Dear Manchester United family. Today is a memorable day as my adventure at the club comes to an end. I want to thank you all for your support throughout the years."

And Red Devils' skipper Ferdinand responded on Instagram: "You deserve the best" - along with a heart emoji.

  • Shock hurdle for Guirassy deal

Serhou Guirassy’s move to Borussia Dortmund ahead of Arsenal and Manchester United has hit a snag in his medical.

Dortmund say tests on the Stuttgart striker revealed an injury.

The Guinea striker, 28, was linked with Premier League giants earlier this summer, including the Gunners, United and Chelsea.

But he chose instead to switch from last season’s surprise Bundesliga runners-up to the team who came fifth in a deal of around £15million.

However, Dortmund said in a statement this evening: “During a medical examination of Serhou Guirassy, an injury was discovered that requires further investigation.”

  • Utd hunt for star with £105m release clause hits snag

Manchester United’s pursuit of Benfica whizkid Joao Neves has been rocked by reported interest from Liverpool.

It’s thought the Portuguese giants have rejected an opening offer from United of around £50million for the 19-year-old anchorman.

    Credit: Getty

But under their new transfer regime, the Red Devils will want to edge closer to moving players out as they eye major incomings.

Trying to offloading Casemiro and his huge wages will be tempting for Sir Jim Ratcliffe and Co.

And it’s understood Portuguese Euro 2024 star Neves has a £105m release clause on a contract running until 2028.

United could be willing to up their bid to £60m – but Liverpool sniffing around has dramatically complicated the issue.

  • The A to Zee on Utd’s incoming striker

Joshua Zirkzee will add much-needed firepower to Manchester United’s attack next season, writes JON BOON.

The Dutch forward, 23, seems destined to play his football at Old Trafford next season, after the Red Devils agreed to pay his £34million release clause to his club Bologna.

    Credit: AFP

Personal terms have also been reportedly agreed, with Zirkzee set to put pen to paper on a deal imminently.

The 6ft 4in striker is on international duty with the Netherlands at Euro 2024, although he has only played three minutes in the tournament.

After bouncing around around Dutch clubs Ado Den Haag and Feyenoord as a youth, he was snapped up by Bayern Munich when he was 16.

However, he failed to establish himself with the Bavarians and was sent on loans to Parma and Anderlecht, before moving permanently to Bologna.

In Serie A, he earned his stripes – receiving a glowing endorsement from Sweden legend Zlatan Ibrahimovic.

While he also showed his commitment to his country, cutting short a dream holiday to Disneyland to join Ronald Koeman’s squad, following a late call-up.

  • Watkins sends Nev & Wrighty wild... but not Keano!

Ollie Watkins sent England fans in Germany and at home wild as the sub's last-minute winner fired the Three Lions into Sunday's Euro 2024 final.

Manchester United legend Gary Neville and Arsenal icon Ian Wright - both ex England stars - were no exception with their crazy rejoicing, despite now being ITV pundits.

The match-night experts against the Netherlands jumped up from their seats and bellowed out cheers as Watkins whacked a stunning clincher.

However, ex-United hardman Roy Keane looked less impressed.

The former Ireland midfielder was seen standing with his arms folded close to the window and largely emotionless despite the pandemonium around him.

Reacting to the clip, one fan said: "Look at Roy Keane."

A second said: "At least Ian was actually watching this time!" A third added: "Even in celebration They know to leave Roy well alone."

  • Devastated De Ligt set for Bayern talks

Prime Manchester United target Matthijs de Ligt is planning talks with his club Bayern Munich - as the devastated Dutchman comes to terms with Euro 2024 semi-final defeat against England.

The £40million-rated Netherlands centre-back, 24, has been expected to confirm a reunion with former Ajax chief Erik ten Hag at Old Trafford once the tournament in Germany is over.

And it's understood United boss fancies pairing him with Argentinian Lisandro Martinez.

Sky Sport's Florian Plettenberg says De Ligt is likely to "chat" with Bayern "soon" about his future.

However, Plettenberg believes the German giants are "waiting" for more progress from United - as there is "no agreement" between the two clubs.

  • Donny 'one of Utd's worst transfer failures'

Donny van de Beek has been branded one of Manchester United's "worst transfer failings" ever.

The Dutch midfielder, 27, is ending six frustrating years at Old Trafford with a bargain switch to LaLiga new boys Girona.

And former England defender Glen Johnson believes VDB is just one example of the Red Devils' mediocre dealings.

Johnson told Paddy Power: “Donny van de Beek has to go on the list of worst transfer failures at Manchester United.

"He signed with a big reputation, and it’s never happened for him.

“It does seem to happen quite a lot at Manchester United especially.

"Players have personal lives, they come with their families who might not deal with the move too well – there's a lot of factors, you don’t become a bad footballer overnight."

  • 'Utd and Sancho should call it quits'

Manchester United and Jadon Sancho have been urged to make a clean break.

Ex-England defender Glen Johnson also reckons the unsettled winger "prefers to be the main man in a smaller pond".

Johnson believes it would be better for everyone concerned if Sancho finally departs permanently this summer.

Old club Borussia Dortmund, where the 24-year-old shone back on loan, have reportedly been priced out of the race as he could cost £50million-plus.

But former Liverpool and Chelsea star Johnson told Paddy Power: “I think Manchester United and Jadon Sancho should shake hands and call it quits.

"He’s got some talent, but he hasn’t shown it at all at United.

" I don’t know what it is – I don’t know whether he gets on with the players, the manager, or likes Manchester, but as soon as he went back to Borussia Dortmund, he looked like a world-beater again.

It’s almost like he prefers to be the main man in a smaller pond."

  • Mainoo tops Sun's ratings for England starters

Kobbie Mainoo topped Sun man Tom Barclay's England ratings against the Netherlands... except for match-winning late sub Ollie Watkins!

Mainoo has grown into the Three Lions' team during Euro 2024 - just like he did for Manchester United during his breakthrough Prem term.

And his all-round influence in midfield earned him an individual mark of 8 for tonight's semi-final - behind the 9 of last-minute scorer Watkins.

Arsenal winger Bukayo Saka and Manchester City's Phil Foden were among five England starters earning a 7.

And so did United's fit-again left-back Luke Shaw following his steady show as a second-half sub.

  • Mainoo and Saka shine in dramatic Englnd win

First-half heroes Kobbie Mainoo and Bukayo Saka helped England KO dramatically KO the Netherlands 2-1 to reach Sunday's Euro 2024 final against Spain.

Manchester United midfielder Mainoo and Arsenal winger Saka were the Three Lions' top players as they fought back to level - before both arguably faded a little when the Dutch got slightly on top in the second period.

United left-back Luke Shaw came on at the interval - performing solidly wide in midfield.

But it was skipper Harry Kane's late replacement Ollie Watkins who smashed a sensational 90th minute clincher.

Mainoo and Saka were then taken off deep in stoppage time.

  • Arsenal & Utd target's move hit by injury

Serhou Guirassy's move to Borussia Dortmund ahead of Arsenal and Manchester United has hit a snag in his medical.

Dortmund say tests on the Stuttgart striker revealed an injury.

The Guinea striker, 28, was linked with Premier League giants earlier this summer, including the Gunners, United and Chelsea.

  • Fans hail brilliant Mainoo vs Netherlands

Kobbie Mainoo's masterful showing against the Netherlands tonight has had more than Manchester United fans "standing up and applauding" the England midfielder.

Mainoo and Arsenal winger Bukayo Saka have been the pick of the players as the Three Lions deservedly fought back from Xavi Simons' sensational opener with a controversial Harry Kane penalty.

And the 19-year-old's United team-mate Luke Shaw came on at the break - to take the left-midfield role that had been perhaps England's only attacking weakness in a much-improved display.

One viewer said of Mainoo: "The world seeing what United fans have been talking about all season."

Another wrote: "Hype was on (Cole) Palmer to be the game changer for England off the Bench but it's Kobbie Mainoo who's taken the opportunity and made the most of it. What a player."

  • Rasmus brother on the move

Rasmus Hojlund's younger brother Oscar has joined Eintracht Frankfurt

Striker Rasmus, 21, joined Manchester United from Atalanta last summer - having previous played for Sturm Graz and Copenhagen.

In contrast, 19-year-old Oscar has joined Bundesliga club Eintracht direct from the brothers' home-town team in the Danish capital.

The midfielder has penned a five-year contract with the Germans.

  • Amrabat in '10-day countdown to Utd dream'

Sofyan Amrabat is waiting anxiously to see if his dream permanent move to Manchester United goes through soon.

That's because United's option to buy last season's loanee from Fiorentina reportedly runs out on July 20.

PSG's Manuel Ugarte and Benfica star Joao Neves are other anchormen mentioned this summer.

Old Trafford boss Erik ten Hag is said to be keen on Amrabat.

But any move would have to be cleared above.

Amrabat only made 21 Pem appearances last term but finished it impressively when Casemiro moved back into central defence - enabling the Moroccan to partner Kobbie Mainoo in the middle.

He then played the whole of the FA Cup final triumph against Manchester City at Wembley on May 25.

  • Bruno's farewell message for VDB

Bruno Fernandes has responded in kind to Donny van de Beek's touching Manchester United exit message.

Dutchman VDB, 27, is joining LaLiga club Girona for just 500,000 euros - about £423k - although add-ons could eventually take the deal close to £9m.

It follows four-part years at old Trafford after arriving from Ajax for £35m plus extras.

VDB wrote: "Dear Manchester United family. Today is a memorable day as my adventure at the club comes to an end. I want to thank you all for your support throughout the years."

And Red Devils' skipper Ferdinand responded on Instagram: "You deserve the best" - along with a heart emoji.

  • Red Devils' legend misses out on Ireland job

Ex-Manchester United defender John O'Shea has lost out on the Ireland job - to a former dentist who masterminded one of England's lowest points.

The 118-cap former Ireland star was one of the favourites to take over after being named interim boss following the sacking of Stephen Kenny in November.

England Under-21 manager Lee Carsley was Ireland's preferred candidate but ruled himself out of contention.

Record goalscorer Robbie Keane put his name in the hat while Chris Coleman, Neil Lennon and Chris Hughton were all linked.

But the Irish FA have surprised many by appointing Heimir Hallgrímsson.

He was Iceland boss during their golden age as they reached the Euro 2016 quarter-finals, knocking out Roy Hodgson's England, and also making the 2018 World Cup.

Coincidentally, the Three Lions will be Hallgrímsson's first opponents as Ireland chief in Dublin on September 7.

  • Give Man Youth a chance...

Old Trafford boss Erik ten Hag homes to give more youngsters senior opportunities in the coming campaign

Winger Alejandro Garnacho and England's Euro 2024 midfielder Kobbie Mainoo became first-team regulars last term

And Manchester United chief Ten Hag explained: “In every season, after a break, you will have surprises.

    Credit: Getty

“We’re looking forward, we’re so curious: who is it this season, the surprise who can contribute to our team?

“Like last year, Kobbie Mainoo, Alejandro Garnacho coming up and playing a big role. They are the two goalscorers in the [Emirates FA Cup] final.

“Today, we started [training], but which player is there who can do the same?”
