Man Utd transfer news LIVE: Ratcliffe watches Spurs draw, United ‘chase £100m Joao Neves’, midfielder closes in on EXIT

  • 'Poor advice' from Neville

Gary Neville admits that he has given “poor advice” by telling stars to join Manchester United and called it “really sad”.

Following the game, Neville joined Roy Keane and Jamie Redknapp in the Sky Sports studio and admitted that he had told several players to sign for United over the past couple of years as he tried to help them return to their glory years from afar.

He said: “I have spoken to players before they come here saying you'll never regret it, it's a magic football club, looking back that's pretty poor advice.”

  • Bellingham snub

Gary Neville hit out at Manchester United’s damning decline by congratualting Jude Bellingham for snubbing them.

Speaking on Sky Sports, Neville said: “I’ve spoken to a couple of players before they’ve come here and said ‘you’ll never regret it, it’s a magic football club’.

“But I have to say looking back, it looks like pretty poor advice with what’s happened to them since they’ve come and it’s really sad.

“They would have thrived at other clubs. Other players who have chosen other clubs have gone on to be really successful.

“You think of Jude Bellingham, and I think of that quite a lot, when he walks into the boardroom here at Man United, United have agreed a fee with Birmingham, and so have Dortmund.

“He has a choice between Dortmund and United. And somehow that kid, well done to him, chose Borussia Dortmund, and he’s now one of the greatest players in the world, one of the greatest English talents.

“What would have happened to him if he’d come here? I don’t know, maybe he would have been a success because he’s that good.

“I’m not so sure in the current environment and culture and what’s been happening.”

"Erik ten Hag called me and said that at United, my agent would get millions of euros and I could earn a multiple of my Ajax salary," he said. "But our decision was clear: we wanted to go to Ajax.

"Manchester United wanted to have me, but I insisted on returning to Ajax. To make that possible, my agent Jose Fortes Rodriguez even waived a hefty percentage of the sell-on clause."

  • Ten Hag bemoans Utd's luck

Man Utd boss Erik ten Hag felt that his side should have had a penalty for a foul on Alejandro Garnacho by Destiny Udogie.

"At Spurs, it was similar, a clear handball, and I can list more..."

  • Checklist fail

Man Utd have been mocked by their own fans following a social media post this afternoon.

The official Man Utd X account posted an "Ultimate Matchday Checklist" ahead of their clash with Tottenham at Old Trafford.

The post was aimed towards Red Devils fans and offered them a list of things to do or buy before the game kicked off.

It was shared with the caption: "Old Trafford: We're back. Make sure you're prepared for our first home game of 2024."

But it was a different checkbox that left fans teasing the Manchester club with one reading: "Game-specific NFTs."

The bizarre inclusion appeared to be urging fans to buy non-fungible tokens made by the club ahead of the Spurs game.

  • Ten Hag's reaction

Erik ten Hag was "slightly disappointed" with Man Utd's home draw with Spurs.

    He said:

  • Fans baffled by new Wan-Bissaka position

Fans were left puzzled by Erik ten Hag’s tactics against Tottenham.

That’s after defender Aaron Wan-Bissaka was deployed out of position at Old Trafford.

The 26-year-old is usually in the right-back slot when selected for United's starting XI.

He and fellow right-sider Diogo Dalot were both named in Sunday’s team against Spurs.

And with the Portugal ace capable of playing on the left, it was assumed that Wan-Bissaka would line up in his normal position.

However, it was Wan-Bissaka and not Dalot who was put on the left side of United’s defence.

  • Half-time: Man Utd 2-1 Tottenham

What a first half for Sir Jim Ratcliffe to take in on his first visit to Old Trafford since taking charge of football operations.

The 25per cent stake owner cheered Manchester United on to a 2-1 half-time lead thanks to fine goals from Rasmus Hojlund and Marcus Rashford.

With each assisting the other as well an understanding is starting to bereak out between the two.

The game was just three minutes in when Rashford burst into the box but delayed his shot.

He still had the presence of mind to flick it to Hojlund who rifled a shot into the roof of the net.

After his emotional winner against Aston Villa it was another major moment for the 20-year-old Dane who is starting to find his feet with the Red Devils.

Spurs were level on 19 minutes when Redro Porro’s corner was met by a flick header from Richarlison that flew past Andre Onana.

The United goalkeeper flies off to the AFCON tomorrow and you wonder if United will really miss him.

He stood rooted to his line when the ball flew into the six yard box and he should have been out claiming it.

Rashford was looking lively charging down the left and combined superbly for a fine one-two with Hojlund before tucking the ball into the far bottom corner to regain the lead for United five minutes before the break.

The game was far from up though as the half-time whistle blew with Spurs finishing the half on the front foot.
