Man Utd transfer news LIVE: Sander Berge EXCLUSIVE, Sancho’s ‘new position’ revealed, Wan-Bissaka ‘agrees’ United EXIT

  • Jadon Sancho's new position

Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag insists he can start the season with Jadon Sancho as a false nine.

Sancho has been used in that position during the US tour after Rasmus Hojlund got injured soon after scoring in the friendly against Arsenal.

Joshua Zirkzee is available after his £36.5million move from Bologna but Ten Hag appears reticent to start him in the early games of the season while he gets used to his new teammates and the Premier League.

That is what we can do if we don't have the availability of Rasmus. We know he can play in wide areas, but also as a false striker, he's an option.

But of course, Joshua Zirkzee, he is coming in, he has started training.

But consider that he is not so long in training, so that will take time, and he has to adapt to English football and our way of playing as well. So there is also, of course, Jadon, as a striker.

New Manchester United signing Joshua Zirkzee has revealed his best position.

Zirkzee, 23, has operated as a striker for most of his career but the Dutchman warned fans he is not a natural number nine.

He told The Mirror: “I occasionally drop down to midfield. I don't do that for myself but to help the team.

    “I am what I call a false striker. Not a No 9, not a No 10. I am a 9.5! That's my game.

“Maybe I'm a little different than others. But being different is good, right?”

Chido Obi Martin has completed his medical ahead of a move to Man Utd, according to Fabrizio Romano.

The 16-year-old left Arsenal last month and is now set to officially finalise his United transfer.

  • Onana on his first Man Utd season

Andre Onana has opened up about his first season at Man Utd and some of the criticism he received.

He admitted: “It’s not always easy to settle in a new country, a new league and new people around but my teammates helped me a lot.

“Being a player for Manchester United, when you don’t win, it’s fair to receive criticism because at the end of the day, it’s part of the job.

“We are here for it and me coming here as the best goalkeeper in the world, it’s normal they were tough on me because they expect a lot from me but at the same time they also give me a lot of love.

“You just have to balance that and criticism sometimes is good because you have to look back at what you did that was not good, so for me I take it positively.”

  • Amrabat future

Sofyan Amrabat is likely to be excluded from Fiorentina's plans for the new season.

The Moroccan midfielder returned to training this week following his loan spell at Manchester United.

However, La Nazione report that he is not part of new manager Raffaele Palladino's plans.

It is understood he will not feature in pre-season as Fiorentina look to secure £17million for his services.

  • Red alert

Andre Onana has warned Manchester United fans he will be taking ‘risks’ this season.

Manager Erik ten Hag wants the team to play out from the back more than in the last two campaigns.

New goalkeeping coach Jelle ten Rouwelaar has been working on that with Cameroon international Onana during their pre-season tour of the US.

And goalkeeper Onana can’t wait to show his skills with his feet even if it might be a bit hair raising for the fans.

A jovial Onana said: “I think it’s what you’re gonna see this season because I will take a lot of risks. I can tell you in advance already!

“Be prepared because it’s gonna be this season, trust me! I will enjoy it even more when this season starts.”

Is it really a good idea to be taking risks after a season when United might have won the FA Cup but finished an all-time low of eighth in the Premier League?

Onana said: “Of course, because the best team in the world takes risks. Building from the back, recognise things, situations, when the opponent jumps one against one, or when they press with three or with four.

“So for me it’s important to recognise those kind of things and make the best decision for the team.

“I will take a lot of responsibility and I think my back is huge to carry it all. I think it’s gonna be nice this season.”

  • Burnley set price for Berge

Burnley will demand up to £30M for Sander Berge with Manchester United eyeing a bid for the Norwegian.

The Old Trafford club are already understood to have made contact with Berge’s representatives.

And the Clarets, following relegation from the Premier League, would be willing to sell the 26 year old holding midfielder.

Despite that drop into the Championship they will refuse to sell him cheap however.

Sun Sport understands that United would be prepared to pay £20M for the player signed for £12M from Sheffield United a year ago.

  • De Gea interest

Fiorentina are confident they can sign free agent David de Gea this summer.

De Gea has been without a club since leaving Manchester United last summer.

According to La Nazione, the goalkeeper is the Viola's top target for the position as confidence grows that a deal can be agreed.

The ex-Spain international was linked with a move to Genoa earlier this summer but his wage demands proved a stumbling block.

  • Rooney reveals gruelling pre-season weight loss technique

Wayne Rooney has revealed the extreme lengths he would go to in order to shed pounds when coming back for pre-season overweight.

The former Manchester United legend says he would often come back from his summer holidays "six to seven pounds overweight."

Rooney recently joined Jill Scott, Gary Neville, Roy Keane and Ian Wright on the Stick to Football podcast with Sky Bet.

He said: "said: "I used to hate pre-season. I'd come back every pre-season six to seven pounds overweight. So I knew I had to put the work in."

Wright asked if Rooney did any training to keep fit at all, to which the England legend said no and Wright replied: "Wow Wayne."

After Neville revealed he did some exercise to tide him over during the summer, Rooney then revealed the extreme lengths he went to to 'make weight' after coming back for pre-season.

The Plymouth manager said: "I used to take the [exercise] bike in the steam room the day before we were back in. Honestly the night before we had to get weighed I'd sit in there for 90 minutes fully clothed.

    "I wouldn't eat a thing, I wouldn't drink a thing."

  • United 'make contact' with Berge

Man Utd are reportedly considering a move for Burnley star Sander Berge after moving on from Manuel Ugarte.

Erik ten Hag is keen to sign a midfielder with Scott McTominay's future hanging in the balance.

Paris Saint-Germain star Ugarte is one of United's targets this summer.

But it appears the Red Devils are ready to move on from the Uruguayan as they are unwilling ot match PSG's £51.4m asking price, according to The Athletic.

The deal could be re-visited if PSG reduce their valuation, but for now United are considering other transfer targets including Martin Zubimendi, Joey Veerman, Adrian Rabiot.

Another midfielder they like the look of is Sander Berge, who was relegated with Burnley last season.

The Athletic claim the Clarets would be willing the sell the Norwegian, who only moved to Turf Moor a year ago.

  • Man Utd's Prem fixtures

The new Premier League season kicks off next weekend!

Man Utd start their campaign against Fulham at Old Trafford.

  • Red alert

Man Utd's shirt sponsor is interested in a naming rights deal for Old Trafford.

Snapdragon signed a three-year deal worth £180million to have their name on United’s jersey.

But they already have their eyes on the club’s ground.

They would look to retain the Old Trafford name with their own connected to it.

For example, Wembley is actually ‘Wembley Stadium connected by EE’.

So Old Trafford could be Old Trafford@Snapdragon.

  • Wan-Bissaka demands United pay-off

Aaron Wan-Bissaka is demanding a multi-million pound pay-off from Manchester United to leave the club this summer.

SunSport has learned that while West Ham are willing to meet United's £18million valuation for Wan-Bissaka they cannot afford his wage demands leaving the deal in limbo.

Wan-Bissaka is open to joining West Ham, but has no huge desire to leave United and is refusing to sell himself short.

The 26-year-old has less than 12 months left on his contract at Old Trafford.

And he could bank a huge signing-on fee by staying put and leaving on a free transfer next summer.

Wan-Bissaka's representatives are pushing for United to give the player a chunk of the £18m fee they will receive from West Ham in order to get the deal done this summer.

  • Sancho on his return

Jadon Sancho returned to the Man Utd line up in last week's friendly against Liverpool.

He revealed he was delighted. "Definitely, 100 per cent. 100 per cent, yes," he said when asked.

Then, when quizzed about preseason tour, he continued: "It's been nice, enjoying the weather, back with the lads, it's been good. I love the facilities in America.

"Obviously when I have time off, I usually come to America. This is actually one of the places I do train before pre-season so it's nice to be back. I wouldn't say it's home but yes, it's a nice facility."

  • Yoro fears

Leny Yoro has undergone surgery on a metatarsal injury that will keep him out for three months.

Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag’s worst fears over his new £52million centre-half were confirmed following the op, which took place after the club’s return from their US tour.

Yoro, 18, suffered the damage in only his second appearance for his new club – a 2-1 friendly defeat to Arsenal in Los Angeles.

United have confirmed the French Under-21s star will be missing until November, his absence bringing back Ten Hag's nightmares of last season.

The club are now certain to accelerate their pursuit of Bayern Munich’s Matthijs de Ligt.

  • Scott McTominay may stay

Scott McTominay may remain at Manchester United despite immense transfer speculation.

According to TeamTalk, McTominay could choose to stay and fight for his place as a move away has yet to materialise.

Fulham appear unwilling to meet United's £30million asking price for the midfielder after splashing a record £34m for Emile Smith Rowe.

And the Red Devils' boss Erik ten Hag said he wants the Scotland international to stay.

  • Man Utd target double deal

Manchester United are targeting both Bayern Munich stars Matthijs de Ligt and Noussair Mazraoui.

According to transfer insider Fabrizio Romano, United are confident of getting both Mazraoui and De Ligt this summer.

The former looks to be close but the latter has so far proven to be a tougher case.

Romano claims De Ligt is being held up by the lack of funds coming into the Allianz Arena but that could change once the Bundesliga giants start selling.

United are hoping to complete a double deal worth below £65million for the defenders.

  • Manuel Ugarte tip

Emmanuel Petit claims Manchester United dodged a bullet by not pursuing Paris Saint-Germain ace Manuel Ugarte.

Transfer insider Duncan Castles says it is far from certain that United will get a deal over the line for Ugarte.

Castles told the Transfers Podcast that Old Trafford chiefs are still £8.5million short of PSG's £51m valuation of the midfielder.

    Petit told Gambling Zone:

I like Manuel Ugarte but I think he's limited. I think he has the quality to play in the Premier League, but I would question if he was what Erik ten Hag is looking for in a holding midfielder.

He is a player with a lot of limitations with the ball and with the football that Manchester United are trying to play, with Ten Hag’s philosophy, Ugarte doesn’t have the required technical ability.

He's got energy, he's got a good mentality, and he's a fighter on the pitch. At PSG, he was in the first team for a few weeks at the beginning of the season, but Luis Enrique realised that he couldn’t play the way he wanted him to and he was on the bench for the rest of the season.

[Luis] Enrique wants players that are very comfortable on the ball and can build the play, he looks for technical ability above everything else in his footballers, and Ugarte didn’t have the quality that he needed or the ability to come out with the ball and to break the first line.

  • Manuel Ugarte pursuit over?

Manchester United have reportedly ended their bid to sign Paris Saint-Germain ace Manuel Ugarte.

According to The Athletic, United are "switching the focus of their search to sign a midfielder away from Manuel Ugarte".

The same source claims the Red Devils have been put off by PSG's asking price of roughly £50million.

As a result, the Manchester giants are now said to be looking elsewhere for midfield reinforcements.

  • Manuel Ugarte alternatives

Manchester United are preparing alternatives if they miss out on Paris Saint-Germain star and top midfield target Manuel Ugarte.

Those are Real Sociedad's Martin Zubimendi, PSV Eindhoven's Joey Veerman, Adrian Rabiot and Burnley's Sander Berge.

Zubimendi will be difficult to pry away from Sociedad as they could soon lose Mikel Merino to Arsenal.

Veerman had a strong summer with the Netherlands and could suit fellow Dutchman Erik ten Hag's style.

Ex-Juventus star Rabiot is currently a free agent but would expect to command a sizeable wage package.

While Berge is keen to leave the Clarets, who need to offload players after dropping to the Championship.

  • Van Nistelrooy's Fergie revelation

Manchester United legend Ruud van Nistelrooy has revealed the "relationship with the individual" is the key managerial skill he learnt from Sir Alex Ferguson.

The most important thing I took from working with Sir Bobby Robson and Sir Alex Ferguson was their relationships with the individual.

It’s not a football player; it’s a person. When you reach that connection, you get the best out of people – and from there on you can help them build their careers. I never let that thought go out of my mind.

Sometimes you have to be tough on them and sometimes you have to get your arm around them. That mixture is important, but the most important thing is to always be honest and straight.

When you have knowledge about the game and what is necessary at the highest level, you must share it.

As a coach, you just try to help players reach their goals. And it is something that makes you feel really proud when you see young players develop.

  • More on Yoro

The loss of Leny Yoro is certain to mean a rethink while Matthijs de Ligt’s right-back team-mate Noussair Mazraoui is also wanted by Manchester United.

The loss of highly – rated youngster Yoro is the worst blow to manager Erik ten Hag after last season’s defensive injury woes.

He was forced to make 33 changes in his back line, blaming them for so many of the problems that would have cost him his job but for the FA Cup final triumph over Manchester City.

His side face their local rivals in Saturday’s Community Shield clash facing another potential defensive crisis.

Harry Maguire had to be left out of the weekend 3-0 defeat by Liverpool in South Carolina as a precaution to ensure he would at least be fit for the showpiece.

But fellow central defenders Victor Lindelof and Jonny Evans were forced off with injuries during the game – along with Wan-Bissaka.

To add to ten Hag’s problems £72million striker Rasmus Hoijlund is expected to be out for at least three weeks with a hamstring problem.

  • Leny Yoro undergoes surgery

Lenny Yoro has undergone surgery on a metatarsal injury that will keep him out for three months.

Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag’s worst fears over his new £52million centre-half were confirmed following the op which took place after the club’s return from their US Tour.

Yoro, 18, brought in from Lille, suffered the damage in only his second appearance for his new club – a 2-1 friendly defeat to Arsenal in Los Angeles.

United have confirmed the French Under-21 star will be missing until November, his absence bringing back to boss Ten Hag his rear guard nightmares of last season.

The club are now certain to accelerate their pursuit of Bayern Munich’s Matthijs de Ligt.

So far United have refused to meet the Bundesliga club’s £42m valuation of Ten Hag’s fellow countryman.

  • Man Utd advice

Former Manchester United ace Kleberson insists his former team won't return to the top four unless they find the "right balance" and "consistency".

Kleberson told SunSport via Free Bets:

United need to find the right balance. They need consistency too.

They start well but then drop off sometimes, [last season] they lost games at home, they lost games that they were winning.

To be top 4 in the Premier League it's very difficult now.

There are so many top teams like Arsenal now so as long as they can be consistent throughout the season, that will be the main determining factor.

  • Ruud van Nistelrooy EXCLUSIVE

Manchester United have found a new secret weapon to help them return to the top four in Ruud van Nistelrooy, claims former player Kleberson.

Kleberson told SunSport via Free Bets:

My pick for this [season's key man] won't actually be the players but the staff and coaches. Ruud Van Nistlerooy will be the key man for this season.

He was an amazing player for United, was extremely hungry for success and now he's on the other side, the players will be on the receiving end of something really powerful.

That's why I think the key for United will be him.
