Erik ten Hag reveals ‘we had issues’ as he explains Jadon Sancho’s omission from Man Utd squad vs Brighton

ERIK TEN HAG has explained the absence of Jadon Sancho from his Manchester United squad to face Brighton.

Sancho, 24, is with the Red Devils for their match at the Amex, but was not even named on the bench.

The Dutch boss named an unchanged starting XI and bench from the 1-0 against Fulham last week.

This means that Sancho - who is said to have missed the Fulham game through illness - lost out on the chance for possible minutes once again.

But Ten Hag has now explained the reason behind Sancho's omission.

Speaking to TNT Sports before kick-off he said: "He's here. I had a choice to make.

"We had some issues, we need a full squad.

"He's one of them and needs to compete for his position, we'll have a look.

"In the squad, it's a long season."

Ten Hag and Sancho had a major falling out last season after Ten Hag omitted Sancho from his squad to face Arsenal, with the ex-Borussia Dortmund star then publicly criticising the comments.

Sancho was then frozen out of the first-team before returning to Dortmund on loan for half a season.

After returning from that loan, Sancho and Ten Hag have buried the hatchet on their feud, though it appears the winger has more work to do if he is to get back into the squad.
