According to The I, The Toffees have slapped a £100MILLION price tag on the England U21 international.

And with United understood to be flying close to the sun with regard to FFP, a deal for Branthwaite seems unlikely.

  • New director edging closer

Manchester United are said to be closing in on bringing Newcastle's Dan Ashworth to the club as the new football director.

The Daily Mail report that it is “increasingly likely” that Ashworth will replace John Murtough in the position at Old Trafford.

  • United looking at Antony replacement

Man Utd are eyeing up former Real Madrid wonderkid Takefusa Kubo as a replacement for disappointing signing Antony.

Antony, 22, joined the Old Trafford outfit in the summer of 2022 for an eye-watering £85.5million.

But he has failed to live up to his mammoth price tag since arriving in Manchester, scoring just eight goals and providing three assists in 62 appearances.

He is yet to register a single goal contribution in 18 games for the Red Devils so far this season.

And Ten Hag is already looking for a potential replacement for the ex-Ajax man – with Man Utd having sent scouts to watch Kubo on at least SEVEN occasions this season.

  • United to pass on Amrabat transfer

Man Utd are unlikely to keep Sofyan Amrabat at the end of the season, SunSport has learned.

Erik Ten Hag is “already planning” for the player to return to Italy in the Summer.

Sources at Old Trafford say there is widespread concern that Amrabat isn’t suited to the Premier League.

An insider said: “Amrabat is very unlikely to stay at Manchester United after the Summer. They have an option to make the deal a permanent one, but as things stand the manager is not making plans to do that.

“There’s no doubt that Amrabat is a good player, but there are question marks against whether he is the right fit for the Premier League.

“He did very well in Italy but the pace of the game is very different and this is an area where he has struggled since arriving at United.

“There may well be interest from other clubs in Europe but as things stand he won’t be staying at United.”

  • Varane eyed for Madrid return

Raphael Varane could be on his way back to Real Madrid in the January transfer window.

And now BILD are reporting that Madrid are interested in bringing Varane back to the Spanish capital as a replacement for the injured Swiss international.

Varane has been struggling for form and game time under Erik ten Hag this season and some reports have suggested he may be available in the winter window.

  • Red Devils expect more than £80m in January

Manchester United look as though they will be taking a frugal approach to the upcoming winter transfer window.

RB Leipzig are reportedly interested in signing Jadon Sancho from Manchester United.

The club are understood to be keen to offload him in January with ten Hag steadfast on his plans to keep him away from the team.

And according to German outlet BILD, RB Leipzig are interested.

Despite Man Utd being willing to let Sancho leave for a fraction of the £73million fee they paid for him in 2021, his £350,000-a-week wages are understood to be a problem for RB Leipzig.

  • Keane would find it 'difficult' in new job

Micah Richards has claimed it would be difficult for Roy Keane to return to football management.

The Manchester United legend recently emerged as a contender for the Republic of Ireland national team job following the departure of Stephen Kenny.

However, Sky Sports pundit Richards - who has a blossoming relationship with Keane on TV - suggested it could be difficult for the 52-year-old to step back into management.

Speaking on The Rest Is Football podcast with Alan Shearer and Gary Lineker, the ex-Manchester City star was asked for his insight on the Keane links to the Ireland gig.

Richards said: "You know what, I think Roy obviously would be a great fit but he's so good at punditry or so well-liked - people like his punditry, I love his punditry, some people don't like his punditry - but he's so well-liked within the media [that] I don't understand why he would take a job.

"It's like you Al (Shearer), he's not had a job for ten years. I would be very difficult now to just go in a changing room and think things are going to be the same now to ten years ago."

He confessed the desire in an interview with Sky Sports, in which he called English football culture "special" and also admitted he had already turned down jobs from overseas.

He said: "It’s why I’ve said no to different countries and different situations because I would like to stay here in England. I feel like our team here is just starting and we want to achieve our dreams.

"The way the country lives football here is special – it’s the best league in the world, the most competitive league in the world, the best environment for the players, coaches and fans too.

"I have fought for titles, I have fought for different aims but of course for the most important thing to feel like you have a project you can put your stamp on it, where you can work and improve the performance of the whole club.

"If you ask me, I’d like this kind of challenge and to be able to achieve each aim the club has.

"I have to be ready. When you accept a challenge, it’s not just about the players and the way you want to play... I think you have to understand where you are, what’s the culture of the club and the history too."

Reports last week claimed Lopetegui was "well placed" to replace Erik ten Hag as the boss of Manchester United.
