Arsenal transfer news LIVE: Gunners eye Victor Boniface, Thomas Partey Afcon status CONFIRMED, Ivan Toney LATEST

  • Eddie the Eagle?

Arsenal have rejected an initial enquiry for striker Eddie Nketiah from Crystal Palace, according to reports.

The Daily Mail have claimed the Gunners have turned down an approach from the Eagles as they search for a new striker.

Arsenal are said to have immediately informed Palace that the England international is not available.

The North London club are reportedly steadfast that a deal for Nketiah to leave the Emirates will not happen in January as things stand.

But it is yet to be seen if that may change in the near future depending on incoming business from Mikel Arteta’s side in the winter window.

Crystal Palace have been eyeing Nketiah for a long time and are in the market for a new centre-forward.

  • Luiz is 'Arsenal's top midfield target'

Arsenal are reportedly still keen on Douglas Luiz.

The Brazil midfielder would cost around £15million in January - but Aston Villa are understandably reluctant to sell the Brazilian.

It's claimed Luiz is ahead of Fulham's Joao Palhinha in the list of possible transfer options for Gunners' boss Mikel Arteta.

  • 'Gunners back in for Leonardo'

Arsenal have identified a cheaper option to Ivan Toney.

The Gunners are reportedly now serious about their interest in Santos striker Marcos Leonardo.

  • Ramsdale should have stayed No1

Arsenal should have kept Aaron Ramsdale as No1 rather than promoting loan keeper David Raya.

That's the verdict of ex-England midfielder Ray Parlour after his old club slipped from first to fourth after two Prem defeats in a row.

Parlour told Danish magazine Tipsbladet: "I don't think Ramsdale has done much wrong.

I'm not a fan of rotating goalkeepers. I strongly advocate for a consistent backline of five players with the goalkeeper and four defenders, as we had in my time.

"That's the foundation you build the team on."

  • Toon set for windfall if Arsenal land Toney

Newcastle and Peterborough are set for huge windfalls if Arsenal sign Ivan Toney.

The Brentford striker has been strongly linked with a move to the Gunners this month.

Arsenal face competition from Chelsea and Tottenham, though, with Toney reportedly valued at £100million by the Bees.

A deal worth that amount would see both Newcastle and League One Peterborough pocket millions thanks to their sell-on clauses.

According to Sky Sports, Posh have a 30 per cent clause included in the £5million deal that took Toney to Brentford in 2020.

Meanwhile, Newcastle would receive 30 per cent of that amount after selling the forward to Peterborough two years earlier.

Those clauses would see Darren Ferguson's side receive £30million if Toney is sold for £100million, with the Magpies then cashing £9million from that figure.

Newcastle previously received £1.5million from Toney's 2018 move to Brentford.

  • Gunners set for Middle East escape

  • Ghana explain why Partey's out of AFCON

Ghana boss Chris Hughton has gone into details over why Arsenal midfielder Thomas Partey has not been picked for the African Cup of Nations.

Partey has been out since October following surgery on a thigh problem that Hughton called "substantial" and his biggest injury" ever.

The ex-Newcastle chief added: "He is one of our most important players... withstanding his injury, he certainly would be in the squad.

“I’ve spent a lot over this period of time with Thomas and also engaging with the medical staff at Arsenal Football Club.

“They will treat this injury with caution, and so will the player. This is a big injury for him and the biggest injury that he’s had.

“The most important thing for me as head coach and our association is to give him the support that he needs through this period of time.

“From all the information that we’ve been given, the timelines of his recovery and the caution that will be taken, will not meet our timelines for the AFCON.”

  • 'Partey exit would hit title chances'

Ray Parlour claims keeping Thomas Partey would boost Arsenal's title hopes.

But the Gunners legend also suggested the Ghana anchorman should be offloaded if the only alternative was a big new deal.

Parlour told Danish magazine Tipsbladet: "If they won't give him the long-term contract he wants, it might be better to let him go.

He has been somewhat injury-prone, and Arsenal probably doesn't want to put the money on the table that his agent wants.

So, it might quickly prove better to let him go and get some money for him instead. It's all about the right balance."

"It's the same situation they faced with Granit Xhaka; if you lose him, you lose him, and let's move on.

"But in an ideal world, I believe a player like Partey should be at least part of the squad if Arsenal wants to win the title."

  • Spurs set to beat Arsenal and United to Radu

Tottenham are expected to fend off Arsenal and Manchester United to sign Genoa centre-back Radu Dragusin.

Transfer guru Fabrizio Romano Spurs have agreed personal terms to with the13-cap Romanian.

  • Arsenal 'lack options' - Carragher

Jamie Carragher has lamented Arsenal's lack of forward options and thinks they should be addressed in the January market.

The Gunners have been goal shy of latewith their front line oftern drawing blanks.

Carragher told Sky Sports: "They're all having really good seasons [Arsenal's forwards] but the gold standard of shot conversion is 20-plus. That's what your Mo Salah, your Erling Haaland, your Harry Kane is getting.

"None of Arsenal's front four have got above that number even last season. And yet they are still creating the same number of shots a game and they've still got the same xG so these players are underperforming from last season, when even then still wasn't good enough in terms of winning a title.

"All four of Arsenal's front are top players but none of them are world class. I think Saka can become world class, but in this league Liverpool won a title because they had Mo Salah. City have won titles in the past because they had [Sergio] Aguero and they've now got Haaland. Is that enough for Arsenal to win a league title? Are any of them world class right now to take Arsenal to a title? I'd say no."

An injury crisis and rising pressure are the challenges that Mikel Arteta faces, as his team has suffered three defeats in their last five games.

Left-back Zinchenko has started 14 Premier League games this term but surprised fans as he was not included in Arsenal's matchday squad at Craven Cottage.

Arteta confirmed the Ukranian was suffering from a “slight calf issue”.

Declan Rice blasted his fellow Arsenal players following their 2-1 defeat against Fulham on Sunday.

The midfielder said after the game: "We let the fans down and we let ourselves down. We need to take more control.

"We need to have more self-belief, more desire, the mentality needs to be better.

“That’s where we need to demand more from each other. We are fighting up the top end of the table and the goals that we have conceded, it cannot happen.

“It is about knowing you’re going to fight for every ball. We need to push each other more when times get tough.

“In this league there is no room to mess up. There are so many good teams around you and obviously we want to be pushing up the top end of the table.”
