Arsenal transfer news LIVE: Gunners ‘leading chase for Xavi Simons’, Ivan Toney drops hint, Douglas Luiz boost

  • Arsenal defender eyed by French team

Marseille have discussed the possibility of signing Arsenal loanee Nuno Tavares this month.

The French giants are in the market for a left-back after Renan Lodi left the club to move to Saudi Arabia this month.

Taveres is on loan at Nottingham Forest but has found his game time limited, with L’Equipe reporting Marseille are keen to re-sign the full-back, having loaned him last season.

  • Arsenal target Bundelisga youngster

Arsenal are keen on signing the RB Leipzig attacker Xavi Simons.

A report from Fichajes claims that Arsenal have emerged as the favourites to sign him at the end of the season, and it will be interesting to see if Paris Saint-Germain are prepared to cash in on him.

The talented young attacker is highly rated across Europe and he has a big future ahead of him. He could develop into a top-class player with the right coaching and guidance.

  • Arsenal duo in contract talks

Arsenal stars Takehiro Tomiyasu and Ben White are in 'advanced' negotiations about a contract extension, according to Fabrizio Romano.

He told GiveMeSport: “The negotiation is advanced with both Ben White and Takehiro Tomiyasu, during the transfer window it's also normal that sometimes for the clubs it is not easy to meet with the agents of these players and complete these deals because they are busy with something else, maybe with outgoings, maybe with loans, maybe with new signings.

“So it's also normal to see this kind of standby in the negotiation but it's already very advanced. I think for Arsenal it's a priority, they're showing for a long time how important it is for them to extend the contracts of their crucial players and they keep thinking that Ben White and Takehiro Tomiyasu are going to be the next ones."

  • Arsenal youngster heading to Championship

Arsenal wonderkid Mika Biereth is set to move on loan to Sheffield Wednesday after his spell at Motherwell was cut short.

The striker scored six goals in 15 appearances for the Scottish Premiership side.

But the Gunners made the decision to bring their U23 forward back to North London.

And the intention is to ship him out at a higher level for the remainder of the campaign.

Motherwell manager Stuart Kettlewell was not happy with Arsenal’s decision to recall Biereth, saying:

“It's a major, major disappointment. This was a little bit unexpected.

“The conversation was that Mika would stay here until the end of the season just last week unless something big came on the table for Arsenal that they couldn't turn down.

“They believe there's an opportunity to send him to another club that takes him that step beyond where we are just now.”

  • Karim Benzema makes transfer decision

Toney has also publicly claimed that he would love to play for a big club one day

Piers seems to see that as Toney ‘begging’ for a move away, and he has now urged Mikel Arteta to ‘stop being so stubborn’ and to go and sign the Brentford striker.

The Sun columnist said: “The January transfer window closes in 14 days but Arsenal still haven’t signed a striker despite proven goalscorers like @ivantoney24 almost begging to go to a big club.

“What are you waiting for @m8arteta? Stop being so stubborn about your ‘process’ & get your chequebook out.”

  • Arteta 'reluctant' to sign much-needed striker

Paul Merson would be “shocked” if old club Arsenal but anyone this month.

The Gunners have been linked with signing a striker, notably Brentford’s Ivan Toney, and a central midfielder, such as Everton’ s Amadou Onana.

But ex-England frontman Merson told  Sportskeeda: “If they had plans of dipping into the transfer market, why couldn’t they have done so earlier in the month?

“This is why I don’t think they’ll pursue a deal for Ivan Toney.

“(Boss Mikel) Arteta’s current situation at Arsenal reminds me of the latter part of Arsene Wenger’s stint.

“Everyone knew at the time that Wenger needed a central defender, but he was a bit stubborn and refused to dip into the transfer market.

“Arteta needs a centre forward now to give his side a welcome boost in the title race, but he has thus far remained reluctant to sign one.”

  • Everton ace Jarrad on Gunners' list

Arsenal are eyeing a deal for Everton’s Jarrad Branthwaite, according to TalkSPORT.

Joelinton has 18 months to run on his deal but wants a bumper raise to become one of the club’s top earners.

But the Samba star and Newcastle are currently at a stand-off.

And the Magpies may look to cash in this summer rather than risk letting him leave for nothing the following year.

Joelinton signed a six-year deal after joining from Hoffenheim in 2019.

  • Tierney tipped for summer exit

Kieran Tierney is tipped to finally leave Arsenal permanently this summer.

The Scotland star, 26, was already only second-choice left-back when he left for a season's loan at Real Sociedad.

The ex-England midfielder, 50, has identified a trio of problem positions after the Gunners slipped from first to fourth in the Prem.

The three-time top-flight winner hopes to see Arsenal recruit a left-back, midfielder and striker.

Asked about areas needed for strengthening, Parlour told SunSport via NetBet Online Casino: “Well, I certainly believe the midfield area, definitely if Thomas Partey does leave because he’s an important player when he plays.

“He’s a dynamic player in that midfield, he’s very good at sitting back and getting back into the back-four and probably Declan Rice can push forward a little bit more.

“Onana’s been mentioned from Everton who’s having a good season, I like him he is quite a good player in that midfield area.”

  • Sociedad make Tierney decision

Real Sociedad have reportedly made a decision on the future of Kieran Tierney.

  • Neville predicts Spurs upset

Gary Neville has suggested that Tottenham will finish above Arsenal this season.

Ange Postecoglou's side have been in electric form and are currently level on points with the Gunners ahead of this weekend's fixtures.

And former Man Utd star Neville thinks that with the injured players they have to return, Spurs can finish above their north London rivals.

Speaking on the Stick to Football podcast, he said: "I made a statement that I think Tottenham will finish second this season.

"With the five players they have coming back – Dejan Kulusevski, Heung-min Son, James Maddison, Pape Matar Sarr and Yves Bissouma.

"If they kept them fit, and with the run they’ve got, they could push Arsenal and Liverpool to second place. Is that a mad statement?

"I think Tottenham are in a position they could push and dismantle Aston Villa, Liverpool, and Arsenal – they could. It’s not a ridiculous statement!”

  • Arsenal injuries ahead of Palace

Arsenal could be without a number of stars when they face Crystal Palace on Saturday.

Arsenal have previously been linked with a move for the 27-year-old England international.

You can never predict when is the right time to move elsewhere, but I think it’s obvious I want to play for a top club.

Everybody wants to play for a top club, that is fighting for titles.

Whether it’s this January that is the right time for a club to come in and pay the right money, who knows?

But my main focus is to do what I do on the pitch, and let the background work take care of itself.

  • Holding offers White praise

Ex-Arsenal star Rob Holding has given a glowing review of his former teammate Ben White.

Holding left the Gunners this summer to join Crystal Palace, but still holds a special place in his heart for the club that gave him his big break from Bolton.

The 28-year-old spoke about one of Arsenal's biggest assets while chatting on Harry's Gym Chat.

He said: "He’s [Ben White] such a diverse player, he’s perfect for a right back but he’s also perfect for a centre-half because he’s not the broadest, he’s not the heaviest, he’s not the strongest, I think he weighs like 78, which is light.

"I’m like how are you that light because he’s tall as well but he’s super lean but he can go up and down all day but then he can slot into centre-half and still have enough to butt it about and be strong.”
