A temperature drop of up to 8 degrees Celsius (46.4 degrees Fahrenheit) is expected ahead of the Lunar New Year holiday next week, with the mercury possibly falling to 14 degrees, according to Hong Kong’s weather forecaster.
But the coming days would bring relatively humid and warm weather, with temperatures rising to 24 degrees on Thursday and Friday, as an easterly airstream impacting the coast of Guangdong province gradually moderated, the Observatory said on Tuesday.
At 1.10pm on Tuesday, the Observatory recorded a temperature of 19.7 degrees and a relative humidity of 82 per cent. It added that a broad band of clouds over southern China had brought moderate easterly winds and cloudy weather to the city with bright periods in the afternoon.

However, it warned that a low-pressure trough would bring unsettled weather early next week, while an approaching northeast monsoon would make the region “appreciably cooler”.
