Monaco have enquired over taking Arsenal ace Fabio Vieira on loan until the end of the season.

The French giants are currently fourth in the Ligue 1 table, and two points off a Champions League place.

The Monegasque outfit see Vieira as the perfect creative midfielder to help them achieve European qualification this season.

The Portuguese ace was linked with an exit to Marseille in November, but manager Mikel Arteta poured cold water on those reports at the time and said he was pleased with the 23-year-old’s progress.

Vieira offered ‘escape route’

Arsenal ace Fabio Vieira has been offered an “escape route” during the January transfer window.

Vieira signed for the Gunners last year for £34million and was tipped to be an important player for manager Mikel Arteta.

But the midfielder struggled to break into the first team last season, and has seen this one be plagued by injury.

Groin surgery has kept the Portuguese ace out since November but he is nearing a return to first-team action.

According to Football Transfers, though, that return could be for Monaco.

Hodgson on Olise’s future

Roy Hodgson has opened up on the future of Michael Olise amid speculation surrounding the forward.

He said: “My thoughts are [it] would be a sad day for the club.

“I am certain the club would like him to honour [his long-term deal] and to improve the team around players like him.

“We need to make the team stronger and not lose them to other Premier League clubs who are putting some money on the table.
