Arsenal and Liverpool are both exploring the possibility of signing Paris Saint-Germain superstar Kylian Mbappe, sensational reports say.
Mbappe’s current contract with PSG is set to expire in June, meaning he will become a free agent in the summer and is free to speak to other clubs in January.
According to the Daily Record, the Gunners and Liverpool are among potential suitors that could move for the star striker.
Both clubs are said to be “exploring the financial and sporting parameters involved” in signing the France international.
Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta is eager to bring a new centre-forward to the Emirates as he looks to guide his team to their first Premier League title in 20 years.
The North Londoners have already been linked with a move for Brentford’s Ivan Toney and Napoli’s Victor Osimhen ahead of the January transfer window.
Ian Wright believes they “robbed” West Ham in the Declan Rice transfer deal - and he wants to give them MORE money.
The Gunners forked out a club-record £105m to sign the England international this summer.
Speaking on the latest episode of the Wrighty's House podcast after Arsenal’s 1-0 win at Brentford on Saturday, he said: “It’s the physicality and fluidity of him.
“He looks strong, we just look different with him. I love Martin (Odegaard) and he’s our captain and I’m very happy, absolutely delighted with that.
“But when you have a player who is eight or nine out of 10 every week, leading by example with everything that he does… you can’t help but think, 'That guy is a captain'.”
Jamie Carragher believes that Arsenal will not win the Premier League title.
The former Liverpool star thinks that the Gunners will fall short as their attacking players have not been as good this season.
He said: "We are only a third of the way through the season but if this is the Arsenal we are going to see this season I don't think they can win the league.
"So many games are going to the wire and sometimes they can go against you. Those 1-0 wins could easily be 1-0 defeats.
"There isn't the same pace and fluidity, creating chances and I don't think it is anything tactical. I am still seeing the same things from Arsenal.
"I just think individually the attacking players have been average whereas they were on fire last season.
"Martinelli, Saka, Jesus and Odegaard, who was up there with Kevin De Bruyne last season.
"I know he (Odegaard) has had some injury problems but the stats aren't great."
Arsenal reportedly had eight other names on their transfer wishlist before swooping to sign Kai Havertz.
The Athletic Football Podcast states that Havertz is highly-rated by everybody at his new club.
But Arteta and Gunners transfer chief Edu did have other targets in mind - including an England international.
It claims that Mason Mount, who also left Chelsea for Manchester United in a £60m move this summer, was one.
Experienced German star Ilkay Gundogan, who quit Manchester City to join Barcelona on a free transfer once his contract expired, was another.
Mohammed Kudus, the 23-year-old Ghana international, was also on the list and they were linked with him for several weeks throughout the transfer window.
He eventually ended up getting a move from Ajax to the Premier League when West Ham forked out £35m to sign him and has shone for the Hammers so far this season.
And the other person on that list is a man they have held a long-term interest in. That player is Inter Milan’s Nicolo Barella, 26, who has 51 caps for Italy.
An amazing photo of young Mikel Arteta with Premier League legend Xabi Alonso has gone viral.
Real Madrid could make a move for the Bayer Leverkusen coach to replace Carlos Ancelotti at the end of the season.
A viral photo shows both Spaniards Arteta, 41, and Alonso, 42, as kids when they played for San Sebastian side Antiguoko before they went their separate ways to pursue their senior careers.
The pair then met again in 2005 when Arteta joined the Premier League for Everton while Alonso was already in Merseyside at Liverpool.
Arteta then left the Toffees for Arsenal in 2011 where played until 2016 before he became the head coach in 2019.
Meanwhile, Alonso departed Anfield in 2009 and headed to the Spanish capital.
Tony Adams suggested that Arsenal would have won the league last year had Unai Emery been in charge of the club.
Speaking to TalkSPORT, he said: "I love him [Arteta]. I love his passion and enthusiasm. I’ve always said he’s a little bit inexperienced and perhaps needs to draw on someone in his staff who is a little more experienced.
“I’m talking about going across the line last season. We all make mistakes and aren’t perfect. He perhaps didn’t rotate players early enough last season.
"People were running out of steam, like Bukayo Saka. I think he’s doing great. Last year, weirdly if Unai Emery was our manager then we could have perhaps won the league.
“I know he didn’t stick around and following Arsene Wenger was difficult, a bit like George Graham being followed by Bruce Rioch.
“I think he missed a few bits last season to get us over the line.”
Arsenal enter the Wolves match fresh off the back of a 6-0 victory over Lens in mid-week.
The Gunners were 5-0 up at half time and were able to rest several key players in the second half of the game.
They'll enter the game buoyed as well as well-rested as they look to sustain their title charge this season.
Wolves were desperately unlucky last time out against Fulham, falling to a last gasp Willian penalty to lose 3-2, which was only awarded after VAR intervention.
In their game previous to that they shocked Tottenham to win 2-1 despite trailing 1-0 as they entered added time.
Mikel Arteta highlighted the importance of Arsenal keeping a clean sheet in their 6-0 thrashing over Lens.
He said: “Yes, because you can become really sloppy and there were parts in the second half that you start to see different behaviours, but I think the team is really focused.
“I think we haven’t conceded a goal in the Champions League at home and scored 12, so it’s good stats.”
Arsenal are looking to build on Wednesday's stunning 6-0 rout of Lens in the Champions League with victory against Wolves on Saturday.
Gary O'Neil's Wolves are coming off the back of a dispiriting 3-2 loss to Fulham on Monday night, where they were on the wrong end of two controversial penalty calls.
Victory for Arsenal would see the Gunners extend their lead at the top of the table, at least for 24 hours.
The Gunners are currently one point ahead of Manchester City going into the weekend, as they look to go one better than they did last year and win the league.
With City playing on Sunday evening against Tottenham, Gunners fans may find themselves in the odd position of cheering Spurs on that night.
Victory against Wolves would open up a four point gap at the top of the table on their nearest rivals.
Arsenal had eight other names on their transfer wishlist before swooping for Kai Havertz last summer.
According to The Athletic, Havertz is highly-rated by everybody at the Emirates but the Gunners’ manager Mikel Arteta and sporting director Edu did have other targets in mind.
Among them were Manchester United’s Mason Mount, Barcelona’s Ilkay Gundogan, West Ham’s Mohammed Kudus and Inter Milan’s Nicolo Barella.
However, the North Londoners opted to swoop for the Germany international from Chelsea.
Arsenal hero Theo Walcott claims manager Mikel Arteta might have to decide whether he wants to prioritise the Premier League or the Champions League.
I think it’s really interesting, because Arsenal haven’t been in the Champions League for a few years, but I do feel a lot of teams will fear playing this team.
I think at some point this season Mikel might have to make a decision about what he wants to prioritise, because I can see Arsenal being right in contention until the end of the season, and it might be a case of deciding which one he wants to go for.
It’s going to be interesting, but there’s no doubt the club are moving the right way under Mikel, and it’s looking really exciting.
