Arsenal transfer news LIVE: Tomiyasu EXIT, Gunners ‘reject Nketiah enquiry from Premier League rivals’, Toney latest

  • Tomiyasu 'could leave on loan in January'

Arsenal are reportedly open to letting Takehiro Tomiyasu leave on loan next month.

The Gunners are expected to be active in the January transfer market as they target their first Premier League title in 20 years.

Mikel Arteta is eager to sign a defender, a midfielder and a striker when the window opens.

However, some current players will have to be offloaded to make way for new additions.

And according to Italian outlet Il Mattino, Tomiyasu could be allowed to leave.

Napoli are understood to be interested in signing the full-back on loan in January.

The Serie A champions are also considering a swoop for Jakub Kiwior, but Arsenal are less likely to sanction a loan for him.

Arteta is allegedly willing to let Kiwior leave in a permanent transfer next month.

  • Gunners need to find 'spark'

Arsenal need to find a "spark" according to Mikel Arteta.

His side close out 2023 away to Fulham on Sunday in their latest London derby.

Arteta told reporters ahead of the match: "Without a spark you don’t generate what the team generates [against West Ham], it’s impossible.

"But it’s the final thing, the final touch, the final action that puts the ball in the net or not, and that’s what we need."

  • More from Arteta

Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta has admitted his team must improve to beat Fulham on Sunday.

The Gunners fell to a 2-0 home defeat to West Ham on Thursday to damage their title push.

On whether his team can win the title playing how they did against the Hammers, he said: "If we don’t improve in the boxes, then no.

"Because at the end that’s what it is, but generating the rest, yeah you say it’s a record [for touches in the box], no?

"So I don’t think there are many teams in the league that have done that for many years, so that's something very positive I think."

  • Arteta isn't 'panicking'

Mikel Arteta says there is 'no panic' after their home loss to West Ham ahead of Sunday's trip to Fulham.

The defeat prevented the Gunners from returning to the top of the Premier League.

Speaking at his pre-match news conference, he explained: "It’s no panic, it’s about trying to do more, do better and win games.

"If the team plays like this, they are going to win lots of games."

  • Hato boost

Arsenal will not have to register transfer target Jorrel Hato in their Premier League squad if they sign the Ajax youngster in January.

The Gunners have been linked with a move for the teenage defender in recent days.

However, Mikel Arteta will not have to sell anyone to make room for Hato in his 25-man league squad as he is only 17.

Players under 21 do not have to be registered as part of a club's 25-man squad.

Premier League rules state: "An Under 21 player is defined as one who is under the age of 21 on 1st January in the year in which the season commences and are eligible over and above the limit of 25 players per squad.

"As a result, for the 2023/24 campaign, Under-21 players will have been born on or after 1 January 2002."

  • Char off

Charlie Patino is not close to leaving Arsenal for Juventus, reports Fabrizio Romano.

The youngster had been linked with a move to Italy as part of a swap deal involving Moise Kean.

However, it is now reported that there are currently no talks between the two clubs, with Patino's Arsenal future set to be addressed in 2024.

The 20-year-old is currently on loan at Championship side Swansea, where he has scored three goals and added four assists in 19 matches.

  • Good omen for Arsenal

Arsenal have a flawless recent away record against Fulham.

The Gunners travel to Craven Cottage on Sunday for their final match of 2023.

Their last five visits have all ended in victories, with Arsenal scoring at least three goals in each of the past four.

Three goals on Sunday would match a run against Aston Villa between 1932 and 1939.

  • Tom his way

Arsenal are reportedly open to letting Takehiro Tomiyasu leave on loan in January.

The Japanese defender has emerged as a target for Italian champions Napoli ahead of the window reopening.

Il Matino report that Tomiyasu is one of several options being considered by Napoli, with the Gunners willing to sanction a loan deal.

Tomiyasu still has over a year remaining on his contract at the Emirates Stadium and has made 19 appearances so far this term.

  • Arsenal tipped for draw

Dimitar Berbatov expects Fulham to frustrate Arsenal at Craven Cottage on Sunday.

The Gunners take on their London rivals in their final match of 2023.

However, Berbatov is predicting a 1-1 draw between the two sides.

The former Fulham striker told Betfair: "Fulham can cause problems, particularly at home.

"They lose games, but Marco Silva has his own philosophy where he wants to play pure football.

"Arsenal are the same, and Arteta won't change his philosophy either. It's going to be about who can out-master the other.

"Arsenal have better players and more quality on paper, and they will be the favourites, however I could see an upset here, so I'll go for a draw, 1-1."

  • Gunners face Solanke competition

Arsenal face competition in the race to sign Dominic Solanke from Bournemouth.

The Gunners have been urged to sign the forward after his fine form for the Cherries this season.

However, Tottenham are also being linked with a move for the 26-year-old, report the Independent.

Solanke has scored 12 Premier League goals so far this term, his best-ever top-flight return.

  • Gunners draw up shortlist

Arsenal have a four-man shortlist of attacking targets for the January transfer window.

The Gunners have been strongly linked with a move for a new striker when the window re-opens on Monday.

According to the Express, long-term targets Victor Osimhen and Ivan Toney remain of interest to Mikel Arteta.

Meanwhile, Bayer Leverkusen's Victor Boniface and Inter Milan forward Lautaro Martinez are also potential signings.

  • Defoe vs Henry

Thierry Henry was left speechless in a hugely awkward moment live on air by Jermain Defoe’s top four prediction.

While on punditry duty as West Ham beat Arsenal, the duo were asked for their top four predictions.

Defoe instantly replied: “[Man] City, Liverpool, Tottenham, Arsenal.”

That led to Henry looking completely amazed at that answer as he replied stunned: “What? “What did you say? Tottenham?”

Unfazed, Defoe hit back with: “Why not?”

  • Arteta's key to the title

Mikel Arteta says if his team don't improve in front of either goal, they will not win the league.

He said in his press conference: "If we don’t improve in the boxes, then no.

"Because at the end that’s what it is, but generating the rest, yeah you say it’s a record [for touches in the box].

"So I don’t think there are many teams in the league that have done that for many years, so that's something very positive I think."

  • Set the Tone

Arsenal have been urged to NOT sign Ivan Toney and instead look at Bournemouth's Dominc Solanke.

Pundit Chris Sutton said: "There's been plenty of talk already about how manager Mikel Arteta needs to sign another striker in January.

"Toney has been linked for a while, but he has not played for months because of his suspension. He will have been training, but how much match sharpness does he have?

"Arsenal are trying to win the title, so they haven't got time to wait for anyone to get up to speed.

"If we are looking at the names that are supposedly within their grasp, Bournemouth's Solanke stands out as the best candidate."

  • Nketiah enquiry rejected

Crystal Palace have seen an initial enquiry for Eddie Nketiah rejected by Arsenal, according to reports.

The Eagles are the third lowest scoring side in the league behind Burnley and Sheffield United.

Nketiah could solve their woes in front of the net but Palace have been told by the Gunners that the striker is not available this January.

Things could change if Arsenal are able to sign a centre-forward themselves to replace him.

  • Vlahovic interest

Arsenal are set to reignite their interest in Dusan Vlahovic, according to reports.

The Gunners have been heavily linked with the Juventus striker before he signed for the Old Lady from Fiorentina in 2022.

Arsenal chief Edu is happy to pay £35m for the player although Juve may demand much more.

  • Partey over?

Arsenal are supposedly open to selling Thomas Partey this January.

The midfielder is one of the club's highest earners, taking home £200,000-a-week.

Partey has struggled with injuries this season and has made just five appearances due to hamstring troubles.

  • Juventus 'plan Patino swap deal'

Juventus are reportedly plotting a swoop for Arsenal starlet Charlie Patino - and they are ready to offer an ex-Premier League player in part-exchange.

The 20-year-old England U21 midfielder is currently on loan at Championship side Swansea City.

He has impressed for the Swans this term, scoring three goals and producing four assists in 19 appearances.

That follows on from his stint at Blackpool last season.

Patino is a graduate of Arsenal’s academy but he has yet to feature for the first-team in the Premier League, with his two outings coming in the cups.

He was expected to leave the Emirates permanently over the summer but instead ended up in Wales - now he could be about to join one of Italy’s biggest clubs.

Football scout Michele Fratini had claimed earlier this month that Juventus had been tracking the youngster’s progress ahead of a potential move.

Now Tuttosport have stated that they are prepared to offer ex-Everton forward Moise Kean, 23, as part of the package.

Arsenal value Patino, who has 18 months left on his contract, at around £17.4million - a fee that Juventus are not able to afford in the January transfer window.

There, instead they are said to preparing a proposal of a part-exchange deal that would see Italian international Kean moving in the opposite direction to the Emirates.

  • Knight Vinai

Arsenal CEO Vinai Venkatesham has been included in the New Year Honours List.

The chief has been at the club since 2010 and has been recognised for his services to sport.

    He will receive an OBE.

Before he joined the Gunners, he worked as part of the commercial team for the London 2012 Olympics.

  • Arsenal 'line-up De Ligt and Schlotterbeck'

Arsenal are lining up a sensational move for Matthijs de Ligt, according to reports.

The Athletic report that the Gunners are tracking the Bayern defender ahead of a move.

However, it is much more likely that it will take place in the summer rather than this January.

Mikel Arteta has been candid in his desire to bring in bodies and said simply in a recent press conference: "We need more players."

But the club are facing FFP issues and may be limited in who they can bring in.

Their high expenditure, particularly on Declan Rice, means they will have to balance the books over the coming windows.

There's also David Raya, who was brought in on a loan with obligation to buy because of FFP issues last summer.

Arsenal will have to pay £27million for him next summer and that will need to be accounted for in the budget.

The Athletic report that strengthening the defence remains the priority for the Gunners in January but the changing nature of the window means that other areas could come into focus.

Midfield could be an area Arsenal choose to reinforce with Thomas Partey due to go off to AFCON.

Aside from de Ligt, Arsenal may also target Borussia Dortmund's Nico Schlotterbeck.

But the price-point and contract situations of both players mean they are deals that may have to wait for the summer.

  • Arsenal reject enquiry from Prem rivals for Nketiah

The Gunners have rejected an initial enquiry for striker Eddie Nketiah from Crystal Palace, according to reports.

The Daily Mail have claimed Arsenal have turned down an approach from the Eagles as they search for a new striker.

Arsenal are said to have immediately informed Palace that the England international is not available.

The North London club are reportedly steadfast that a deal for Nketiah to leave the Emirates will not happen in January as things stand.

But it is yet to be seen if that may change in the near future depending on incoming business from Mikel Arteta's side in the winter window.

Crystal Palace have been eyeing Nketiah for a long time and are in the market for a new centre-forward.

  • Rice trolled by Hammers fans

Declan Rice was brutally trolled by his old supporters as West Ham beat Arsenal for the second time this season.

Fans in the away end chanted his name as he gave away a penalty that was missed by Said Benrahma at the end of the game.

And they were also heard singing "2-0 down, 2-0 down, Declan Rice" to the tune of their old chant "10 more years, 10 more years, Declan Rice" as they begged him to stay last season.

  • Ramsdale told not to quit

David Seaman has urged Aaron Ramsdale to stay at Arsenal.

The former No1 told talkSPORT: “No. I don’t want him to leave the club at all. Raya has come in and I think now we’re seeing you know why he’s in there because with his feet he’s brilliant.

“Even last night [vs West Ham], some of the touches that he made were brilliant. It’s still 50-50 for me.

"I’m happy that we’ve got two really good quality goalkeepers at the club.

"But the main factor that you’ve got to do is make sure that whoever’s not in is happy.”

  • Gyokeres rules out January switch

Viktor Gyokeres has been linked with Chelsea and Arsenal in recent weeks.

But the Sweden and Sporting Lisbon striker has promised to stay in Portugal until the end of the season.

Gyokeres said: "I’m very happy here and I don’t care about any interested parties at the moment.

"I’m enjoying every day here and not thinking about what’s going on around me. Yes, there’s talk of big clubs, but for now it’s just news. That’s all."

  • Full Nelson for loanee Reiss

Reiss Nelson is set to leave Arsenal on loan next month.

The winger has barely featured this season after signing a new deal.

And he could be tempted by a temporary move to Wolves.

But there could be an offer from Spain too, with Sevilla keeping tabs.
