  • Arsenal 'deserved' win

Mikel Arteta has claimed that Arsenal deserved to beat Liverpool in last night's FA Cup tie.

He told BBC Sport: “The performance for sure was there, the amount of chances, situations.

“Performance-wise, we deserved to win the game, there’s no question about that.

“But actually we lost it, so we’re not capitalising. In football, in sport, you have to capitalise to win games, and at the moment, we aren’t doing it.”

  • Arteta on fans' calls to buy a striker

Mikel Arteta has responded to fans calls for the club to sign a striker in the January transfer window.

He said: "What I beg the supporters is that they are behind the team, that they’ve done in difficult moments.

"Stick with the ones we have - they are incredibly good. If not, they don’t do what they’ve done again today, in Anfield and here. Stick with them, it’s exactly what they need, that we are fully behind them.

"Then they feel important, and supported because they deserve it, with their attitude they don’t deserve anything different. That’s my opinion."

  • Arteta insists Smith Rowe part of his plans

Mikel Arteta has insisted that Emile Smith Rowe remains part of his plans this season.

That’s despite Smith Rowe rarely featuring in the first team for The Gunners this season.

When asked about potentially selling Smith Rowe, Arteta said: “That was never part of our plans.

This is a two-way conversation all the time with players.

“I love listening to them about how they are feeling, what is the best thing for them, or what they want to do.

“Because you really have to be aligned with them and how they are feeling and they have to feel important.

“This is still the biggest part of the season to play now and we have to be patient, and he will have his chances.”

  • Arteta unlikely to recall Kieran Tierney

Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta is unlikely to recall Kieran Tierney from his loan spell at Real Sociedad, according to Football Insider.

There had been speculation that the full-back could return to the Emirates after Oleksandr Zinchenko's injury.

Takehiro Tomyasu has also been call-up by Japan for the Asia Cup which has left Arteta short at the back.

  • Arsenal slammed by star's brother

The brother of Chelsea starlet Omari Hutchinson has taken aim at Arsenal on social media.

Hutchinson, 20, quit the Emirates for Stamford Bridge in a controversial transfer 18 months ago.

Now, his brother Oshaye has taken aim at Arsenal and their fans online.

He reckons Hutchinson is proving to be a top prodigy and is owed an apology by those who criticised his Emirates exit.

He pointed out that other top Premier League sides gave youth a chance in their respective FA Cup clashes at the weekend — while Arsenal turned to zero kids in their 2-0 defeat to Liverpool.

Oshaye wrote on Instagram Stories: “Some people owe my brother an apology.

“All the abuse and hate comments he received when he left Arsenal. I hope you guys are all seeing why!

“This weekend: Man City debut (tick), Chelsea debut (tick), Liverpool (tick), Spurs youth played (tick), Arsenal (cross).

“I feel sorry for my Arsenal youth man. Free the guys.”

  • Toney 'maths don't work'

Former Arsenal ace Kevin Campbell has admitted that he does not see the club making a move for Ivan Toney this month.

He told BBC Radio 5 Live: "Will Arsenal go all in for Ivan Toney? I can't see that happening at the moment. If he's on a wishlist, yes, because Arsenal need firepower.

"But I just don't see the maths working out at the moment for whatever reason - be that FFP or sale of players etc.

"So maybe they will have to go down a different route and balance the books before they can make a big assault on Ivan Toney type striker in the summer."

  • Arteta laments missed chances

Mikel Arteta has slammed Arsenal's inability to "capitalise" on the chances they had to beat Liverpool.

He said: “It was a really disappointing result with a big performance against probably the team that is the most in-form in Europe. We were better than them, we generated much more than them, we created so many chances but we didn’t capitalise.

“Against these teams, you have to capitalise if you want to win. If you don’t score in that box, and then you concede an own goal and the second one like we did, it is difficult to win.

“It’s football, and you have to realise the situation and know we’re going to have to generate more and shoot better and arrive in better positions, but today we had plenty. Today we were better than them, and we should have won the game, there’s no question about that.”

  • Saliba wants unity in camp

William Saliba has insisted that Arsenal's stars must stick together following the defeat to Liverpool in the FA Cup.

He said: “I’m really disappointed because we started the game so well. We had too many chances to score, but we didn’t. Even in the second half, we were good, unfortunately we conceded one free-kick 10 minutes before the [end of the] game.

“We have to kill the game off before, because when we have so many chances like this, we have to score. We have to defend free-kicks better, we cannot concede them like this, so we can be really disappointed today.

“We have to stick together. We know we’re not in our best moment, but we won’t give up and we’ll come back even stronger.

“We will work a lot during this break, we will breathe a little bit. We will stick together and come back stronger, and better.”

  • Tony wants to 'repay' Brentford

Arsenal transfer target Ivan Toney has insisted that he wants to pay back Brentford after the end of his ban from playing.

Even when I wasn't at their games, they were singing my name. And I got loads of messages on social media.

A friend of mine sent me a video of the fans singing my name, I got goosebumps to know that they're still behind me, even though I'm not there.

Everyone knows Brentford is a family club, they have been nothing but amazing for me.

I can't thank them enough, especially the fans. They were behind me from the first minute as well. So it's kind of like I have a lot to repay.

  • Nketiah asking price

Arsenal have set an asking price for Eddie Nketiah, according to reports.

The Gunners will demand £30million for the striker, claim the Daily Star.

Any sales could be put towards an offer for one of those forwards.

  • Saliba reflects

William Saliba believes he knows where Arsenal are going wrong.

"I'm really disappointed because we started the game so well," he said.

"We had too many chances to score, but we didn't. Even in the second half, we were good, unfortunately we conceded one free-kick 10 minutes before the [end of the] game. We have to kill the game off before, because when we have so many chances like this, we have to score.

"We have to defend free-kicks better, we cannot concede them like this, so we can be really disappointed today. We have to stick together.

"We know we’re not in our best moment, but we won’t give up and we’ll come back even stronger. We will work a lot during this break, we will breathe a little bit. We will stick together and come back stronger, and better."

  • 'Psychological issues'

Mikel Arteta fears Arsenal’s misfiring attackers now have “psychological issues”.

Asked if missed chances are becoming a psychological issue for his toothless stars, the manager admitted: “Probably it has, especially after today.

"That’s why we need to reset. Merit-wise there is no question that we deserve to win the games but the results are very different. If the team is getting hammered I’d be much more worried.

"But when my team plays with that courage and attitude against  probably the best team in Europe right now in terms of momentum, what can I do but stick by them and support them?”

  • Arsenal ball mystery

Baffled football fans are convinced cheeky Arsenal STOLE an FA Cup football from Leicester City.

And one disgruntled Foxes supporter jokingly pleaded with the Gunners to return their property.

The Gunners lost 2-0 to Liverpool at the Emirates in the third round of the famous competition.

But during the tie in North London, some eagle-eyed viewers were left utterly bamboozled when Arsenal right-back Ben White took a throw-in.

The cameras zoomed in on the £50million ex-Brighton defender holding the yellow FA Cup Mitre ball above his head.

That is because the ball appears to have the initials “LCFC” written on it twice in black ink.

That prompted the Leicester supporter to write: “Can we have our ball back please @arsenal?”
