Arsenal transfer news LIVE: Arteta gives Saka injury update, Gunners ‘and Chelsea eye Osimhen’, Tomiyasu’s new contract

  • Arteta praises Jorginho

Mikel Arteta was full of praise for Jorginho's hard work on and off the field.

He said: "Unbelievable. I’ve always said that he’s an example, a role model. He’s been in a lot of pain as well, because he has an issue that he’s been carrying for months.

"He didn’t want to stop, he’s been playing with that, he’s been training as the first one in and the last one out, and for all the kids, for everybody at the club, you want to look in the mirror at somebody, just look at him and how he behaves.

"He’s won everything, and if you ask him not to play, or to play one minute like last week, he’s happy to go there. You ask him to play 98 minutes at the rhythm and he’s able to do that, so I’m really lucky to have players like this."

  • Jesus and Zinchenko injury update

Gabriel Jesus didn't start against Liverpool.

While Oleksandr Zinchenko was forced off at half-time.

After the game, Mikel Arteta spoke about their injuries.

"With Gabby we expect it to be something about days, and with Alex we don’t know because he had some feeling in his calf again and we had to take him off," he said.

  • Arteta on his celebration

Mikel Arteta couldn't hide his jubilation - running down the the touchline after Arsenal sealed the win with Leandro Trossard's late goal.

Speaking about his celebration, he joked: "You can see that I can still sprint!

“I realise I was going to get booked so I started to turn around immediately because I want to be next to the team.

"It was an incredible game, one that I will remember especially for the way it happened and for the emotions that we felt during the game. I’m going to have a beautiful dinner tonight."

  • Van Dijk takes the blame

Virgil Van Dijk took the blame for a shocking defensive cock-up as  Arsenal blew the title race wide open.

Van Dijk said after Sunday's 3-1 loss: “It’s a very tough day. I  take full responsibility for Martinelli’s goal as that was a turning point in the match and I should have done better.

"It’s a split decision and I chose to let the ball bounce, try and put my body in between, Alisson touched me a little bit and that’s why he couldn’t clear it properly.

“It hurts and it hurts for the rest of the team — but especially for me. It was a big turning point.

“These things have not happened too many times in my career but I will recover  as I learn from things that don’t go well.”

  • Jorginho reflects

Jorginho has reflected on a 'special day' and thanked the fans for their involvement in the win over Liverpool.

“It was a special day,” he told Arsenal's club website.

“The supporters, they were behind us and we could feel it and it was just an amazing, amazing football match and an amazing day for us.

It was really hard work, if we didn’t do that - we couldn’t win for sure. We knew we had to push the limit to beat them because they are a great team and that’s what we did and I think we deserved the win.”

  • Jorginho's game in numbers

Arsenal's Jorginho was given the man of the match award for his all-star performance against Liverpool.

He led the way in passes, interceptions and touches.

The 31-year-old rolled back the years.

  • Carragher's dig at Odegaard

Jamie Carragher told Martin Odegaard to "get down the tunnel" after the Arsenal star took photos on the pitch.

After the game he savoured the moment, taking photos with a hefty-looking camera.

Watching Odegaard while performing punditry duties for Sky Sports, an unimpressed Carra said: "Just get down the tunnel.

"You've won a game, three points.

"They've been brilliant, back in the title race... get down the tunnel.

    "I'm serious, honestly..."

  • Player ratings v Liverpool

Arsenal dominated Liverpool in their 3-1 win.

Here's how the player's rated, according to SunSport's Jordan Davies.

  • Arteta does a Klopp

Mikel Arteta copied Jurgen Klopp's famous celebration that was greeted by cheers from the Arsenal fans.

We wonder what his rival manager thought of it?

  • Injury update on Saka

Arsenal fans were given a scare when Bukayo Saka was forced off against Liverpool.

The Gunners winger received treatment on the pitch before slowly walking off.

Boss Mikel Arteta said: "He should be fine I think. He got a kick on the ankle."

Saka was previously ruled out for two weeks back in October after picking up a thigh injury.

  • Chelsea outcast puts in shift for Gunners

There seems to be an abundance of nearly-men heading from Stamford Bridge to The Emirates but one in particular shone today.

Jorginho controlled the midfielder for Mikel Arteta's side and put in a man-of-the-match performance.

He played a huge part in their victory this afternoon.

  • Gunners need to put a run together

Arsenal now needs to put a string of results together.

Losing any of the games coming up undoes the good they did today when it comes to the title race.

Arteta's side needs to become consistent as they cannot afford to drop any points.

  • FT: Arsenal 3-1 Liverpool

It all went downhill for the Reds in the second half.

Virgil van Dijk's and Alisson made not one but two slip-ups costing the Reds two goals.

    Ibrahima Konate was sent off.

Arsenal took home all three points in a crucial win as a defeat would have put them eight points behind the Reds.

  • Arsenal 2-1 Liverpool

That was probably one of the most bizarre goals of the season.

Van Dijk looks to shepherd the ball back to Alisson, who comes out to clear it, jumps in the air and misses it.

It leaves the Arsenal winger Gabriel Martinelli with an empty goal to slide the ball into.

  • View from SunSport's Jordan Davies at The Emirates

Deservedly in the lead, Arsenal were cruising into half-time thinking they should be further in front.

Instead, they are all level thanks to a bizarre own goal from Gabriel that came from absolutely nothing. William Saliba did not paint himself in the best light either.

As soon as that goal went in, the atmosphere - which had been amazing up until then - sunk.

Liverpool have been thoroughly outplayed but did begin to get a bit more possession under their belts towards the end of the half.

Jurgen Klopp will most certainly make some tweaks to get back into this one, and Mikel Arteta will have to be aware of that in his own half time rousing pep talk.

You get the feeling Arsenal cannot sit back now. They have to continue in the same blitzing, barn-storming, end-to-end fashion and push for a second.

Either way, the next goal could go a long way to deciding who will be in this fascinating title race until the very end.

  • Arsenal 1-1 Liverpool

It was a messy goal but they all count.

Diaz and Saliba challenge for the ball and the Columbian just will not give up.

He toe pokes the ball, it strikes Gabriel's hand and goes into the back of the net.

Arteta will not be happy with that atrocious defending.

  • Arsenal 1-0 Liverpool

Bukayo Saka opened the scoreline for Arsenal in this crucial Premier League title clash.

The goal seems to have knocked the wind out of the sails of Jurgen Klopp's side.

How they react to that goal will dictate the outcome of this game now.

  • Arteta team selection baffles many

Given the injury to Gabriel Jesus keeping him out, it was a surprise to see Kai Havertz selected ahead of Eddie Nketiah.

Technically playing without a striker this afternoon, it does not seem to address their biggest problem of scoring goals.

Arteta may have questions to answer after the game if his team struggle to create clear-cut chances once again.

  • Arsenal's starboy

Arsenal star Bukayo Saka is often the man to break down a stubborn defense.

With Andrew Robertson fit again for Liverpool fans can expect a showdown on the Gunners' right flank today.

  • Arsenal's biggest test of the season

Arsenal face their biggest test of the season, a defining one that could make or break their title charge, and Gabriel Jesus is NOT in the squad.

The Brazilian played through a knee injury at the City Ground, scoring the opener as the Gunners beat Nottingham Forest 2-1, but it has come at a cost.

Mikel Arteta revealed post-match that Jesus had some fluid on his knee two days before the Forest clash yet the medics were fine to see him start and play for 78 minutes.

It means Kai Havertz leads the line for Arsenal for the first time in the Premier League and the third time this season in all competitions.

the other occasions coming in the FA Cup defeat to Liverpool on January 7 and the Community Shield in August.

Eddie Nketiah is on the bench – a decision that will leave the young Englishman questioning his own future in North London. If he does not get a start now, then when?

Elsewhere, Jorginho is in midfield to bring some control to proceedings, while Ben White and Oleksandr Zinchenko start at full-back having had their spat on the pitch at Forest.

  • Arsenal XI to play Liverpool

Big news from the Emirates as Jesus is NOT in the squad and Havertz starts.

    • Raya; White, Saliba, Gabriel, Zinchenko; Rice, Jorginho, Odegaard; Saka, Havertz, Martinelli
  •  Partey ‘expected’ to leave

The Mirror claims that Partey is ‘expected’ to leave Arsenal at the end of term when he’ll have just one year left on his contract.

Partey has made just five appearances this season after suffering from a hamstring issue back in October.

And Mikel Arteta has already got Partey's replacement in mind for Real Sociedad's Martin Zubimendi.

Barcelona and Bayern Munich are also eyeing up the 24-year-old who has a release clause worth £51.2million.

  • Osimhen swoop

Arsenal will rival Chelsea for the signing of Victor Osimhen, according to reports.

The Mirror claims the Gunners have earmarked the Napoli star as the striker they need to push them forward.

The report adds that the Gunners are also still on the trail of Ivan Toney.

Financial Fair Play rules meant they had to keep their powder dry during the January transfer window.

  • Ramsdale tough season

Ramsdale has had a tough season at Arsenal after the club signed David Raya from Brentford last summer.

Manager Mikel Arteta has preferred the Spaniard to Ramsdale in the league, which has seen him feature just five times.

The Englishman has only made five more appearances across the League Cup, Champions League and FA Cup.

This lack of game time has led to rumours suggesting that Ramsdale could be on the move with the likes of Chelsea and Newcastle interested.

  • Arsenal team news

Mikel Arteta will be hoping that he can finally reintroduce Thomas Partey to the squad after the midfielder returned to full training last week.

But the Arsenal boss is expected to continue without Jurrien Timber (knee), Fabio Vieira (groin) and Takehiro Tomiyasu (Asian Cup).

Arsenal star Bukayo Saka is often the man to break down stubborn defenses.

With Liverpool's Andrew Robertson fit again, the two could have a brilliant battle down the Gunners' right flank.
