The secret bolt on your windows that you can adjust to make your home warmer for free – and it takes seconds
DO you feel like your home is chilly but you don’t want to pay for the heating being on the whole time?
A man has shared his hack for reducing draughts around his windows - and it’s all thanks to a secret bolt on the edge.
Speaking in a video, a psychiatrist shared how to adjust your windows in winter to instantly notice a difference.
On his @dr.nureini account, he said: “A lot of people are not aware that these PVC windows have adjustments.
“If I put my hand here, I can feel the wind coming in, it’s very cold.
“If you look here, most of the windows will have this hexagon-shape bolt that you can change the direction to make it more tight when it closes.
“To do this, you’ll need an L-shaped tool [allen key].”
The man showed how the bolt had a small line or dot on one side, and you can rotate the bolt so the marking is closer to the rubber.
He added: “That means it closes harder.
“Now when I close it, I don’t feel any wind that is coming out.”
His clips have racked up millions of views, and people were impressed at the easy hack.
One person wrote: “Thank you for sharing. I have these exact windows and the breeze is horrible.”
Dr Nureini replied: “Most welcome.
“Make sure to not keep it like that all year round as the the rubber will wear off.
“You can readjust it as soon as the weather improves to allow for air ventilation and to avoid mould.”
Another person added: “Thank you for sharing, it has been so helpful.”
With temperatures dropping many of us will be tempted to reach for the thermostat, however, the cost of living is enough to put anyone off.
Families are therefore having to turn to alternative ways of insulating and warming their homes, such as draught-proofing.
Allan Reid, a founder of Art Windows & Doors, has provided several tips on how to adequately draught-proof your home and prepare for the oncoming winter season.
One of the tips was to use self-adhesive strips.
Allan said: “Self-adhesive strips are not only easy to install but inexpensive. Many materials used are moreover weatherproof but also insulating and useful for soundproofing, meaning there are several benefits.

“As these strips are so easy to install and affordable, they are one of the most popular choices when selecting protection regarding sealing.
"They are particularly popular amongst renters, who may not want to utilise any permanent fixtures when draught-proofing their home.”
