My home smells amazing thanks to my DIY air freshener and it costs just 4p to make
THE cold weather can make our homes a little musty, with laundry lingering for days, cooking smells getting trapped in the kitchen and poor ventilation.
If your home could do with a refresh, one cleaning guru has revealed how she makes her home smell sensational for pennies.
Whilst you could spend a small fortune on air fresheners and scented candles, it’s better to use DIY methods to give your home a boost – according to interiors expert Lia.
Better known as @southernyankeediy on Tiktok, the US influencer regularly shares her budget home hacks and leaves her 33,000 followers stunned.
Rather than using expensive store-bought accessories, the cleaning whizz has shared her tips and tricks she uses to keep her home smelling amazing all year round.
First on her list was making a DIY air freshener, using items you’d find around your house like a spray bottle and clean water.

In the short video, the content creator showed fans how to mix 28 ml of rubbing alcohol, 85 ml of water and a few drops of essential oil.
All you need to do is shake well and then spritz around your home with a spray bottle – it really is simple!
Not only is this a more natural way to refresh your home, but it could help you save at the checkout.
Even a small scent candle can cost over £2, but Amazon has all the essentials you need to make multiple batches of the room spray for under £13.
This includes a spray bottle for under £2, a litre bottle of rubbing alcohol for £8 and a pack of essential oils starting from as little as £2.57.
For those that haven’t done the maths, this means you could spend as little as 4p day to keep your home fresh for a month.
However, this wasn’t the only thrifty hack Lia had for her fans with the content creator also raiding her kitchen cupboards for DIY deodorisers.
If cooking smells are getting you down, this Southern belle suggests leaving a bowl of baking soda in your kitchen, cupboard or fridge to keep strong smells at bay.
Lia also uses another natural cleaning tool to banish bad odours, simply by simmering a pot of white vinegar on the stove.
She claims this hack is incredibly effective in the kitchen and told fans: “It will remove all the strong odours before you even finish your last bite.”
Finally, the US influencer will also make a simmer pot to keep her home smelling heavenly throughout the year.
You won’t even have to use essential oils for this low-cost hack, with Lia revealing that she just combines orange slices, cranberries, dried rosemary and spices like cinnamon in a pot.
