I had dark under-eye circles but the skincare buys that helped me most weren’t eye creams – there’s no gatekeeping here
A BEAUTY guru has revealed that she got rid of her dark circles by overhauling her skincare routine.
She said eye creams didn’t make the biggest difference to her skin when trying to brighten her undereyes.
Care Clark (@careclarkbsn) has over 217,000 followers on TikTok, where she shares self-care tips.
She shared a photo showing how dark her undereyes were during college before revealing what she’s been using on her skin in the five years since.
“Believe it or not the thing that helped me most with my dark circles was not an eye cream,” she said.
“Don’t get me wrong, eye creams can definitely help and I do use one regularly now.
“But it’s actually specific concentrated skincare ingredients that made the biggest difference.
“I started to slowly invest over time in better quality skincare, specifically these two ingredients glycolic acid and vitamin C.”
She recommended SkinCeuticals’ Purifying Cleanser with glycolic acid, which costs $39 on the brand’s website.
“Purifying Cleanser with glycolic acid is an effective skin cleansing gel,” the product description says.
“Formulated with a mild surfactant system and an optimized 3% concentration of key ingredients combining glycolic acid and glycerin.
“This unique technology refines dull skin tone and uneven skin texture while delivering hydration to dehydrated skin.
“Purifying Cleanser employs a mild foaming action to efficiently remove surface debris and impurities, leaving skin feeling refreshed, renewed, and conditioned.”
It is suitable for all skin types and has a 4.1-star rating from customers.
The beauty enthusiast also recommended SkinCeuticals’ C E Ferulic with 15% L-Ascorbic Acid, which costs $182.
“A patented daytime vitamin C serum that delivers advanced environmental protection,” the product description says.
“Improves the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, loss of firmness, and brightens skin's complexion.”
The vitamin C serum has a 4.4-star rating and thousands of glowing reviews from happy buyers.
Care raved about the ingredients in the skincare products as she promised not to “gatekeep” how she improved the appearance of her dark circles.
“Actives like these have the potential to produce much better results because they’re actually treating and correcting pigment,” she said.
“So yes eye patches, hydrating eye creams, and serums, they’re all great but to see real, long-lasting results I would delve into the world of skincare.”
"No gatekeeping here," she added.
Almost 29,000 people liked the video and many people took to the comment section asking for more skincare tips.
According to MedicalNewsToday, glycolic acid chemically exfoliates skin by dissolving dead skin cells and oils.
It can be a useful treatment for acne, hyperpigmentation, and the visible signs of aging.

Meanwhile, Vitamin C skin treatments can also help to balance skin tone, reduce hyperpigmentation, and prevent premature aging.
Visible results of using Vitamin C serums may take several months because it takes time for the skin cells to replenish.
