Man Utd news LIVE: Erik ten Hag review in ‘FINAL STAGES’, United battle Spurs for £60m Eze EXCLUSIVE, Branthwaite latest

  • Rashford snub is a 'wake up call'

Marcus Rashford's England snub could be the wake up call he needs, according to Stuart Pearce, to get on the right track.

Pearce told talkSPORT: "You talk about Marcus Rashford. The last caller turned around and said it could adversely affect him. I think it should be a wake-up call to this kid. The talent that he has got. I have watched him at United, and every once in six games, he goes and does something, he gets you off your seat, he cuts inside and scores a wonderful goal.

"You think, you are one of our most talented players, you should be leading this squad, and you forced the England manager to leave you out of the squad because of your form.

"This is going to be harsh of me to say, he lacks real personality on a football pitch to grab his club side and take them to where they should be. He has been there since he was a kid. Grab the club by the scruff of the neck and lead the club. That’s the age he is at the moment."

  • Fernandes price named

Man Utd will listen to offers of £70million for captain Bruno Fernandes, according to reports.

An exit from Old Trafford seemingly near for the Portuguese midfielder, who has spoken with Sir Jim Ratcliffe about his vision for the future of the club.

Cristiano Ronaldo is also believed to want a reunion with his fellow countryman in Saudi Arabia.

It's also been suggested that Fernandes is looking to increase his salary to £300,000.

  • Ferdinand's secret passion

RIO FERDINAND has revealed the amazing gift that could have kept him on his toes even more than waltzing football icons like Lionel Messi did.

The Manchester United legend chose the Theatre of Dreams over the Theatre of Streams - well, Swan Lake - despite being a ballet prodigy.

Ferdinand, 45, told the Guardian: "I was given a scholarship to the Central School of Ballet, which was a big thing for a boy from a council estate in south London.

"I had an amazing time, but it got to the point where I’d have to go every single day to be able to audition for bigger productions.

"It was my decision to come away from it and choose football."

  • Olise chase

Man Utd are one of the many sides chasing Michael Olise.

However, they could face plenty of competition for the £60million rated winger's services.

Liverpool, Chelsea, Arsenal and Man City are all eyeing up a move for the Crystal Palace wideman.

  • Greenwood exit

Mason Greenwood's exit is reportedly lined up.

Reports in Portugal suggest the forward could be set for a move to Lisbon side, Benfica.

Benfica chief Rui Pedro Braz is said to have already met the player and his dad.

It is unlikely Greenwood will stay with Getafe, where he spent last season on loan.

  • Ratcliffe sale

Sir Jim Ratcliffe is reportedly looking to sell Nice following his investment in Manchester United.

The British billionaire and his Ineos team have owned the French club since 2019.

However, despite being granted permission for both clubs to play in the Europa League next season, Ratcliffe remains fearful they could be kicked from European competition in the future.

As a result, he is exploring the possibility of selling Nice, according to the Independent.

  • United blow

Manchester United face competition to sign long-term target Joao Neves from Benfica.

Neves’ Portugal team-mate has revealed he has urged the teenager to join Manchester City instead.

Silva told reporters: “I told him to go to Manchester City. It’s not easy. He’s a player who, due to the success he had last season, has many clubs that want him.

“As a Portuguese and being a player I appreciate him, I would like to see him by my side. But I want the best for him. I don’t need to convince him.

“Joao Neves is already convincing with the way he works, with the energy he brings to the game.

“It will be easy for many clubs to enter the race. Let him make his decision, let it be the best for him. If he continues with this energy, he has a very good future ahead of him.”

  • Ten Hag frustration

Erik ten Hag has become frustrated with the delay over his future at Manchester United.

The Red Devils hierarchy have been conducting a review of the season, with Ten Hag's fate reliant on the results.

Ten Hag had believed the review was complete following the FA Cup final triumph and jetted off on holiday.

His future remains unresolved two weeks on, though, with the Dutchman still expected to leave Old Trafford.

It is understood Mauricio Pochettino, Graham Potter and Gareth Southgate are the top contenders to replace Ten Hag.

  • Rashford support

Phil Jones has shown his support for former team-mate Marcus Rashford.

The Manchester United forward missed out on a place in the England squad for Euro 2024.

Jones exclusively told Ladbrokes 1-2-free: "Rashford is the one I would identify as the biggest decision. It's a tough call, and I'm not saying it's the right or wrong call.

"I always think Marcus - even if he's not had the season he'd have liked - has the ability to do something special. I know him as a person, and as a player, and I think he could have certainly offered something, especially in games where we're struggling to break teams down.

"You know, he's got that little bit of brilliance - that little bit of magic where he can just take it out of his feet, whip one in the top bin and win you the game. But, again, there are so many talented players to choose from - so there's always going to be someone who misses out, and unfortunately it's him this year."

  • Worth the Waite

Manchester United "expect" to sign Jarrad Branthwaite before the end of the month, according to reports.

The Everton defender has emerged as a top summer transfer target for the Red Devils this summer.

According to the Liverpool Echo, Branthwaite's omission from England's final Euro 2024 squad has left United confident a deal can be completed before June 30.

Everton value the 21-year-old at £75million, the report adds.

  • Mainoo responds to boos

Kobbie Mainoo has given his thoughts on England fans booing the side off after their 1-0 loss to Iceland on Friday.

Responding to suggestions the boos would affect the atmosphere in camp, the Manchester United midfielder told reporters: "Not at all.

"We know the quality we have in the changing room and now we just have to show the fans we’re good enough and we can compete in Germany.

"I think going into a tournament after a loss can be a good thing."

  • Solskjaer return

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer could be set for a return to the Premier League.

SunSport understands Leicester have been in contact with the former Manchester United manager.

Solskjaer is being considered to replace Enzo Maresca as the Foxes' new boss.

The United legend has been away from the dugout since leaving the Red Devils in November 2021.

  • Messi move

Former Manchester United defender Marcos Rojo almost joined Lionel Messi at Inter Miami.

The Argentinian revealed Messi tried to convince him to leave Boca Juniors and move to the MLS side.

Rojo told Radio La Red: "Leo called me, it’s not like it was just anyone or an intermediary, no one. I spoke with Leo Messi, who told me about the possibility of going to Inter. Imagine what that means for any footballer.

"The truth is I was not convinced to leave Boca, I had recently renewed. The only thing I did was communicate with Roman to tell him about the situation and to tell him that if he needed me here I was going to stay.

"I wasn’t convinced to leave, I didn’t want to leave. If he told me that he needed me here for this year, I was 100% convinced to continue in Boca and I want to continue doing it."

Brandon Williams released an emotional farewell statement on Instagram after leaving Manchester United, who issued a touching response.

  • Lisandro Martinez on injury

Manchester United ace Lisandro Martinez has decided to take his injury hell "as an experience".

It was not a good season personally and, as a team, too.

But you have to be prepared for when these things happen, these types of injuries. And you have to learn from them.

I have to take it as an experience and be very strong physically and mentally. Today I feel excellent.

I have to focus on what is happening now, in the present.

  • Solskjaer linked with Leicester

Manchester United legend Ole Gunnar Solskjaer could be set for a sensational Premier League return as Leicester's new boss.

SunSport can reveal the Foxes have been in contact with Solskjaer as they draw up a shortlist of candidates to replace Enzo Maresca.

But the 51-year-old is now itching to return to club management after being narrowly pipped by Giovanni Van Bronckhorst for the Besiktas job earlier this week.

Leicester have turned their attention to the Norwegian tactician after another contender, Maurizio Sarri, made it clear he wasn't interested in the job.

However Solskjaer is desperate for another crack at managing in the Premier League and wouldn't be put off by the Championship winners' potential points deduction for breaching PSR rules.

  • Mainoo plays for England

Manchester United ace Kobbie Mainoo started for England against Iceland.

Mainoo paired up with Declan Rice in midfield during the Three Lions' 1-0 loss to Iceland at Wembley.

The 19-year-old stood out for United this season under Erik ten Hag.

Luke Shaw wasn't part of the squad but made the Euro 2024 team as the only available left-back.

  • Southgate on Shaw

England manager Gareth Southgate said picking Luke Shaw is a "calculated risk"

Shaw will be going to Euro 2024 as the Three Lions' only natural left-back.

The 28-year-old has only completed a 90-minute game once in 2024.

Shaw didn't play during England's 1-0 loss to Iceland at Wembley.

  • Southgate on Maguire

England boss Gareth Southgate revealed he had to drop Manchester United ace Harry Maguire because the "balance wouldn't have been right".

Trent [Alexander-Arnold] can play both [midfield and defence], we had nine defenders in the last couple of tournaments so I think we're the same now.

That was part of the reason we couldn't take Harry Maguire. We would've had to take a 10th defender, and that balance wouldn't have been right, it would've left us short in other areas.

Harry has made some progress, but it's been complicated and we wouldn't have had him in the group stages. There were too many hurdles to get through without being clear where we might get to.

Knowing we haven't got a clean bill of health across the rest of the backline, we need players who are fit and ready to go from the start.

It was a really difficult call, you know how I feel about Harry, what he's done for England and for me as a manager. It's a slightly different case to [Jack] Grealish and [James] Maddison, but it's no easier.

  • Michael Owen Exclusive

Manchester United hero Michael Owen might feel “less people are a**ed” about him here but his popularity abroad was never more evident than when he brought Pakistan to a standstill this week.

I’d say my standing, if that’s the right word, is 10 times higher abroad than it is in the UK.

In the UK I’m one of a Golden Generation that was good at football, the likes of me, Rio [Ferdinand], [Frank] Lampard, Scholesy [Paul Scholes, [Steven] Gerrard, [Wayne] Rooney, all of us, give or take 15 or 20 per cent, we are all seen as sort of equal and possibly commercial deals, appearances on the TV, whatever it might be, it is probably quite an even split in many ways.

Take me abroad and, I guess what most people remember, Owen and [David] Beckham back in the day at the World Cup. I go back to the ‘98 World Cup and I get a bit of popularity from that, but the following years a big generation of people started following football when it started booming in Asia after the 2002 World Cup when me and David were two of the big stars out there for the England team at that point.

I also think that something like the Ballon D’or carries massive weight abroad but it carries no weight at home.In fact, in the last few years people have started mentioning my name with the Ballon D’or, but when I went to Real Madrid you could not read an article without my name being followed by ‘Ballon D’or winner’ in Italy, France, Spain, wherever.

When I won it I didn’t even know what it is – I was like ‘European Player of the Year – oh my god!’ I read all the names but I really had to read up on what it was and the press gave no credibility to it for years and years but in France, Italy, wherever I go abroad they always say: ‘Oh my god, you won the Ballon D’or’. Less people are a***ed in England. My stock is like tenfold abroad.

  • No Fergie time

Former Manchester United chief Michael Knighton fought tooth and nail to keep legendary manager Sir Alex Ferguson 1990 but is adamant Erik ten Hag is just not good enough for the club.

Erik ten Hag is in a very difficult position. He was incredibly lucky to win the FA Cup.

Not in the final, but Coventry City were the better team in the semi- to come back from 3-0 down and then they scored a brilliant goal in the last-minute of extra time which was not given by VAR due to a big toe.

They were much the better team - no question - they should have been in the final.

He’s very lucky. He’s not right for Manchester United. I don’t mean any disrespect to the man, but he’s not right for Manchester United. My prediction is that he will go.

    Michael Knighton
  • Erik ten Hag replacement

Borussia Dortmund manager Edin Terzic has emerged as a target for Manchester United.

United boss Erik ten Hag may be sacked this summer despite winning the FA Cup.

According to Sport Bild, the Red Devils could turn to Terzic after he led Dortmund to the Champions League Final at Wembley..

Before joining the Bundesliga side, the 41-year-old tactician was an assistant of Slaven Bilic at both Besiktas and West Ham.
