Skincare fan says her 50-year-old neighbor’s $3 anti-aging buy transformed her face – she now gets ‘so many compliments’
A BEAUTY guru has been wowed by the results of a budget-friendly skincare product recommended by her 50-year-old neighbor.
She decided to try the anti-aging buy as her current routine wasn't advised for use during pregnancy.
She took to Reddit’s Makeup forum after a user asked members to share hacks that transformed their beauty routines.
GLOW UP
Posting under the handle Minniemouse420, she raved about an affordable skincare product.
“Currently preggo and had to change my HG [holy grail] skincare routine,” she said.
“I was super upset since I love skincare and taking care of my skin topically and with medical treatments has been a source of happiness and fun for me.
“When mentioning this to a neighbor (who had great skin at 50) she said ‘Oh dear you don’t need all that - I’ve been using Vaseline since I was a teenager and I don’t have any wrinkles.’
“I’ve since added it to my routine and have gotten SO many compliments on my skin.”
Vaseline Original Unscented Petroleum Jelly costs just $2.49 at Target.
According to the manufacturer, it is “clinically proven” to heal and moisturize dry, damaged skin.
Target customers have given it a whopping 4.8-star rating out of a possible 5.
The Redditor revealed she only has to use a small amount of the product to achieve her desired look.
“I stopped washing my face and only use micellar water,” she said.
“A peptide moisturizer, followed by a thin layer of Vaseline. Let it all dry.
“Then put my foundation on over top using my hands/fingers and patting it in, not rubbing to avoid flaking.
“Then using a strawberry-colored blush on the cheeks. I seriously look so glowy and alive!”
SKINCARE STAPLE
Many people up-voted the beauty tip and revealed they’ve also been impressed by how it improved their skin.
“I only do it at night, but it’s been amazing for my skin,” one person said.
“I recently started doing it because I live in dry climate and my skin breaks out with most things,” another wrote.
“Can confirm Vaseline is where it’s at.”
Anti-aging tips and 'superstar' products
Dr. Anatalia Moore is a GP and skin specialist with over 11 years of clinical experience.
She told The U.S. Sun that her goal is to equip patients with the knowledge they need to take control of their skin journey.
She said the fundamental basics of a beauty routine are the same for all ages — it should include an effective cleanser, moisturizer, and SPF.
"Moisturizers are my superstar, even over products containing active ingredients," she said.
“Finding a well-balanced moisturizer that provides the right kind of hydration, replaces natural oils, and seals them in, literally stabilizes your skin.
“This in itself quickly can soften the appearance of fine lines and texture, as often these are worsened by dehydration.
“It also allows the skin to function as it should.
“It then can heal faster, which, among many things, can lead to fewer lines and wrinkles, less flares of dermatitis and rosacea, and shorter-lived, milder breakouts.”
Dr. Moore's skincare staples:
- Obagi Hydrate and Hydrate Lux moisturizer, $78
- Adequate sleep
- Balanced diet
- Reducing stress
According to Healthline, petroleum is the “main ingredient” in Vaseline, but the product is safe to use on the body.
The bargain beauty buy is suitable for sensitive skin and conditions such as rosacea.

It can keep skin moisturized and soft while forming a protective layer that aids healing.
Research shows that Vaseline won’t shrink pores or reduce wrinkles, but keeping skin moisturized contributes to a youthful appearance.
