But luckily, a savvy homeowner has shared a super affordable short-term fix that'll help to get rid of the eyesore in an instant - and it costs just £1.50.

In a clip shared to TikTok (@toni_interior1), the cleaning whizz named Toni raved about a bargain buy from none other than Wilko.

"How to get rid of mould on walls," she begins, as she shows off the mould starting to work its way up her white walls..

After warning that you must always wear rubber gloves while dealing with mould, she then holds up a bottle of Wilko's white vinegar spray and advises: "Spray the mould with white vinegar! DON'T use bleach!

"Leave it to sit for one hour....and wipe clean.

"Then spray again to ensure you've killed the mould…and leave overnight."

The next day, Toni recommends buying a tub of Ronseal 6 year anti-mould paint for walls and ceilings.

"Paint where the mould was…you don't need to paint the entire wall," she says.

Moments later, she shows the newly cleaned wall and enthuses: "And the mould has gone!"

Toni captioned the post: "How to get rid of black mould from your walls."

It wasn't long before the post went viral, garnering a whopping 426k views and several comments from social media users.

"I've used that paint and it works!!" one person wrote.

A second commented: "HG mould remover spray works on everything apart from painted woodwork."

A third advised: "Prevention - get a fan move the air.
Ventilation will help."

Meanwhile, a fourth penned: "Dehumidifier. Get that washing dry quicker. Dry air is easier to heat."

Uses of white vinegar

White vinegar is a must-have in any household - ridding it of smells, stains and mould.

It is a natural, non-toxic disinfectant, making it a go-to for safe cleaning within homes.

Here are some of the items you can use it on:

  • Limescale in kettles and irons, as well as around taps and on shower screens
  • Windows and mirrors
  • Stainless steel appliances
  • Cleaning the floor
  • Removing stains on floor and clothes
  • Use with water to remove pet urine smells
  • Tackle odours in your washing machine
  • Removing mildew and mould

However, another warned: "This is a short term fix only."

But Toni isn't the only person to suggest using white vinegar to help get rid of mould.

Bathroom experts at Plumbworld have also backed the use of the bargain buy and commented: "Vinegar is a great option for killing mould.

"It may smell unpleasant, but it won’t have the toxicity of bleach.
