Hong Kong police arrest trio after 8 thugs storm car wash shop, steal HK$150,000

Officers were called to the store on Tak Yip Street in Yuen Long after receiving a report of criminal damage from an employee at around 12.30am on Saturday.

“Initial investigation showed eight men, carrying wooden rods, rushed into the shop, broke two cars, a computer and television, as well as a glass panel. They also stole HK$150,000 in cash,” police said.

The force said the gang fled in three cars before officers arrived. No injuries were reported.

Police said investigations by the Yuen Long district’s anti-triad squad were ongoing and further arrests were possible.

Police handled 5,298 reports of criminal damage across the city, up 2.4 per cent from 5,172 cases logged in 2022.
