However, she and her daughter were left devastated when they all failed to turn up.

In fact, Aaliyah's boyfriend was the only person to come.

Sharing a video on TikTok, Aaliyah - who was wearing a "Mummy of the Birthday Mermaid" T-shirt - wrote over the top: "How do you react when nobody shows up to your daughter's party?

"Except your BOYFRIEND."

She turned the camera to show her daughter, dressed in a mermaid outfit, looking forlorn as she slumped back in her pushchair.

Aaliyah also showed the hall, which had been decked out with balloons and banners, and tables all set up for people to sit at with their food.

As for the food, she'd spent $225 (£176) on delicious offerings, and was determined not to let it go to waste.

"My boyfriend's family is eating gooood tonight," she added.

She also wrote in the video caption: "This is the support system i have for my daughter.

"Happy Birthday My lil mermaid!!

"Remember blood is no thicker than water."

The comments section was almost immediately filled with people offering their condolences to Aaliyah, and many revealed their own similar situations.

"No-one showed up to my 7th birthday party and I remember it 10 years later," one wrote.

"I wish no one has to go through this ever!"

"Nobody showed up to my son’s 2nd birthday party and after that we started taking trips every year," another added.

"One reason I don’t really have parties anymore, trips will always be my go to," a third commented.

"There’s 18 classmates in my daughter's class and only 2 students showed up for her birthday party," someone else wrote.

"I know how it feels."

As others insisted if their child was invited to a party, they would attend, come hell or high water.

"I’ve never once not showed up to a party my daughter has been invited to," one said.

"I actually can’t stand the thought of a child in this position!"

"Y’all remember when we were kids?" another added.

"We went to EVERY party... even when we didn’t want to go.

"Mum made us go AND bring a gift even when we couldn’t afford it."

As a third said: "I don't understand this generation of parents (I'm not that old BTW).
