I’m a trichologist – ignore ‘miracle’ hair growth hacks, 3 tips actually make a difference including a ‘promising’ oil
A HAIRCARE professional has debunked a few growth hacks that some people think are miracle workers when it comes to their thinning locks.
He shared three useful tips that make a huge difference, including a popular oil known for its "promising" qualities.
Arran Isherwood is a Senior Trichologist Specialist at FUE Clinics who has "been there, done that" in terms of hair loss, making him an expert on the matter.
He broke down which hair hacks to avoid and which ones to start doing with The U.S. Sun.
ONE SIZE DOES NOT FIT ALL
Many people are often looking for remedies that won't break the bank, but Isherwood said there are a few things to keep in mind first.
He explained that budget-friendly hair growth hacks have become increasingly popular over the past few years especially on TikTok.

"Unfortunately, the hair loss industry is rife with misinformation with new ‘miracle’ treatments popping up all the time."
He recommended taking everything with a grain of salt and "approaching all hair growth solutions with caution.
GO-TO FOR GROWTH
Although there are tons of "miracle" products popping up on the market, there is one that Isherwood approves of that has a proven track record of success.
Rosemary oil has several benefits for overall health and wellness.
They include anti-inflammatory properties, promoting nerve growth and improved circulation.
Isherwood said that the last point is very useful when it comes to hair loss.
"Improved circulation can prevent hair follicles from being starved of a blood supply, which in turn leads to hair falling out," he explained.
The expert added that there isn't much "conclusive evidence" to confirm this, but "the results shown are promising."
RELAXING LOCKS
Another useful method to improve thinning tresses that also doubles as self-care is scalp massages.
"When it comes to the scalp, massage can help to stimulate blood circulation and stretch the hair follicles to help promote growth," Isherwood explained.
A recent study from the Dermatology and Therapy Journal found that 69% of 340 participants self-reported an improvement in their hair loss.
Tips for styling thinning hair
Rachael E. D Sey is a certified trichologist with almost 15,000 Instagram followers.
She revealed to The U.S. Sun how to protect hair from further loss.
Hairstyles
Sey recommended opting for a top knot or loosely braided ponytail over styles that tension strands.
She also advised to limit the use of heat tools such as a hair dryer or straightener.
Those who have afro hair, should avoid braids or consider larger braids.
DIY treatments
The trichologist said hair should be washed regularly and trimmed every six weeks.
She recommended using hair oils to help "improve scalp circulation and follicles."
DOWN IN THE DIRT
Lastly, Isherwood emphasized the benefits of a really good deep cleaning, but you need the right product.
He also suggested tossing a good clarifying shampoo in your haircare routine.
"Clarifying shampoo is designed to help rejuvenate your scalp by gently cleansing the surface of bacteria and fungal growth, while also balancing your skin’s pH," he explained.
