I’m a trichologist & have the perfect low-maintenance style to prevent more hair shedding – use my tips for growth
A POPULAR hairstyle and frequent use of heat tools are contributing to shedding locks, says a trichologist.
She revealed the secret to stimulating growth and the low-maintenance style that protects hair from further loss.
Rachael E. D Sey (@cherub.london) boasts over 14,000 followers on Instagram, where she shares expert advice for people suffering from hair loss.
The 35-year-old, from London, told The U.S. Sun there are several reasons why hair loss may occur and said certain styles can worsen the problem.
“The main causes of hair loss tend to be stress, menopause, aging, and bad hair styling,” she said.
“There are also issues of vitamin deficiency, poor diet, childbirth, depression, and if you’re in the process of chemotherapy.
“All of the causes listed above add to hair loss problems.”
The trichologist revealed ponytails shouldn’t be worn frequently as they can cause damage over time.
She also advised against the use of heat tools such as a hair dryer or straightener.
She recommended swapping the hairstyles for looks that put less tension on the strands.
“A top knot Is the perfect low-maintenance style to prevent hair loss," Rachael said.
"Loosely braided ponytails also work.
“If you have afro hair, try to avoid braids, if you are considering braids try and do bigger braids.
“Deep condition your hair often and regularly incorporate trims into your lifestyle.”
“The best way to stimulate growth is by regularly using conditioner in your hair,” she added.
“Washing your hair on a recurring basis, trimming your hair every six weeks.
“Using hair oils to help improve scalp circulation and follicles.
“Use a hair growth shampoo to help increase hair growth. Have a routine that works with your schedule.”

Rachael said seeing a trichologist every two to four weeks is “essential” for improving overall hair health when suffering from shedding.
“Whether it is to get trims or treatments or you want your hair to grow longer and stronger in strength, salon-quality essentials and treatments are imperative for healthy hair growth,” she said.
She revealed it’s also important to read the ingredients on haircare products to check they are beneficial to your needs.
She sells a restorative scalp serum for £38.99 [$49], a cleanser for £27.99 [$35], as well as a shampoo and conditioner duo for £53.99 [$68] on her Cherub London website.
“The products used should at least be sulfate-free as it helps eliminate frizz and retain moisture,” she said.
“Biotin is known to improve the appearance of your hair.
“Argan oil is also perfect as it helps eliminate breakage while making your strands stronger.
“Buy a good shampoo and conditioner which is ideally cruelty-free.
“I also recommend silk pillowcases to prevent breakage.
