The internet can often be a great resource, with people sharing their favourite tips and how to find the best products on a budget on social media.

As the cost of living crisis continues though, more and more people are looking for DIY ways to look after themselves.

Keen to share their own thrifty tips and tricks, one Redditor revealed that they had used an old towel and transform it into multiple wash cloths.

Uploading a picture to the r/Frugal forum, the user even showed how they used a box cutter to trim the towel in to nine irregular sized squares - ready to reuse as flannels.

Rather than hemming them with a sowing machine, the DIY fan decided to leave the edges raw and they were badly frayed in places.

It was also hard to tell from the image whether the mottle grey cloths were bleach stained or just in the sunlight.

Whilst the hack will definitely will save the original poster a few pounds, we have to wonder whether we’d be prepare to wash our face with these.

Unsurprisingly, many in the money saving group weren’t impressed.

“Is this frugal or hobo hacks?” argued one shocked user, with another adding: “Hope you know how to declog drains!”

Though the majority of members wanted to save money, a third stated that there were some item worth spending on.

“Yeah somethings are a bridge too far for me and this one is one of those things for some reason. A decent pack of washcloths is like $15 on Amazon,” they pointedly wrote.

Others tried to encourage the original poster to rethink their design and said that it was worth spending time tidying them up.

“If you are willing to invest more time you could also cut clean edged with scissors and sew a fold to make the edges look cleaner,” commented another concerned member.

Continuing, they said: “If you have some experience with the sewing machine it wouldn't take more than 20 minutes for all these pieces but it would look so much better.

“These ripped up thinks would be shop rags to me, but not wash cloth that I want in my bathroom.”

However, some weren’t so critical about the cleaning hack.

“My dad this. Also [did this with] old shirts. Anything old you work on, you hit up the rag bin in the garage,” stated one fan.
