My sister is giving her baby a ‘modern version’ of our late mom Victoria’s name – people say it’s an ‘abomination’
AN AUNTIE-TO-BE couldn't help but publicly share her two cents about her sister's baby name choice after their late mother.
The child's name is meant to be a "modern version" of their deceased mother's, but people say it's an "abomination."
Reddit user Coradoralora was not a fan of her sister's name choice for her baby, despite its meaning.
She shared her opinions in the popular group called Tragedeigh, which is "a given name that has been deliberately misspelled or completely made up to appear more unique than it actually is."
In the post, she explained their mother Victoria, also known as Vickie, passed away when they were teenagers.
BABY BOND
Their mother died from ovarian cancer when her sister was 17 and she was 13.
As a result, they planned to honor her in a special way when they were older.
"We have always talked about the first one of us to have a girl would name her after our mother," she said.
Cora explained that her sibling was about five months pregnant and found out that she was having a girl about two weeks before.
"I asked her if she was going to name her after our mother because she had shared a couple of times that she wanted to honor our mother, but didn’t particularly like our mother’s name," she added.
Cora said she was her sister told her that she was planning on calling her unborn daughter a "modern version" of their mother's name.
She planned on naming her Vixorya or Vix and Vixie, for short.
The Reddit user admitted that she loved the name Victoria personally and wanted to use it but has "zero prospects" in the dating department.
"I don’t see myself having a baby anytime soon," she said.
PUBLIC OPINION
Redditors didn't hold back and gave their unfiltered opinions.
"Forget bullying in school. Ask her if this is a name that she should have on a resume in 25 years?" a Redditor inquired.
"Or have her go order Starbucks and use that name," another replied.
A Reddit user even chimed in to say that "every parent considering a tragedeigh should have to do this."
"Wish she'd pick something like mom's favorite flower, or favorite color, or vacation location. Anything other than this abomination of a name," one wrote.
"I would say you can still use Victoria. Your sister definitely isn't using it," another Reddit user advised.
"This! OP [original poster], Vixorya is not Victoria, but even if it were, you could still use Victoria," someone else added.
Others found the name funny.
