I was about to be homeless so my nan let me move into her garage – I used the money I saved on rent to transform it

A WOMAN has revealed that she moved into her grandma's garage after she was about to be left homeless, and has used her rent money to transform it.

Sally revealed that although she had money for rent, she was unable to move in anywhere as she has five dogs, which landlords were not happy about.

She documented her garage transformation via a video posted to her TikTok channel @sallativa0.

Sally revealed that before her grandma had offered to let her rent the garage, she had been living in a trailer with no running water for eight months with the five dogs.

She added that she had initially only had two dogs, but had taken on her dad's pets after he sadly passed away.

Sally said that she used the whole six months of rent she had saved up to renovate the garage, but was glad that she and her dogs finally had a safe home.

"This was a tough year for us, but we're safe now, and that's all that matters", she said.

With the help of friends and family, Sally, cleared the garage, insulated the room, painted the walls and added in flooring.

She furnished the garage, with a cosy looking bed, a sofa and a desk and put up curtains around the garage door.

Sally's video has likely left many impressed, as it has racked up over five million views on the video sharing platform

TikTok users raced the video's comments section to share their thoughts.

Living in a garage is a great way to save cash for a house, if you want to move out but don't yet have the funds to be able to afford one.

As the cost of living crisis continues to bite, more and more adults are struggling to get on the property ladder and are choosing to live in their family home for longer.

The 2021 census revealed that over half of people aged 23 and under still live with their parents.

The average price of a house in the UK was £285,000 as of March 2023, and this rises to a whopping £735,254, which is completely unaffordable for many.

Moreover, research from the Resolution Foundation found that the average first time buyer deposit tripled from 5 per cent of the property price in 1989 to 15 per cent in 2019.

This means that buyers have to save for far longer and use up a larger percentage of their earnings to get on the property ladder.

Recent research by property site Zoopla found that 42 per cent of adults under 40 who do not already own homes have given up, due to the astronomical cost of buying a property.
