I couldn’t afford a house so live in my parents converted garage – it’s so spacious and has everything I need
LOOKING to fly the nest but don't have the funds to move out?
Want to live close to your parents but still keen to have your own independence?
One woman may have found the answer.
Mely shared how her parents converted their garage into a tiny home for her to live in via a series of videos posted to her TikTok channel @mlymly1000.
She explained that the conversion took three months to complete, and added that all of the work was done by her dad.
To convert the 400 square foot garage, Mely's dad painted the walls, removed the garage door and sealed it up by building a wall.

He spray painted cabinets a sea green colour and installed them into the garage along with wood flooring and a fan.
Walls and sliding doors were also built inside the garage to separate it into different rooms.
The garage, which Mely has named 'Casa De Mely' now looks unrecognisable, and what was once a tiny looking garage, has been transformed into a spacious looking apartment.
In the bedroom, there is a large double bed, a fluffy sheepskin rug and plastic vines hanging from the walls, to give the room a jungle feel.
The kitchen dining area has everything Mely needs, including a frige, a microwave, a large sofa, a giant TV and a stylish glass coffee table.
The garage also has a marble walled shower and the place is decorated with funky prints and paintings.
TikTok users raced to the comments section of Mely's video to share their thoughts on her garage apartment.
One user said: "I’m so inspired by this.
"Wow beautiful work".
Another user said: "I'm so in love.
"This will be my inspiration for my garage conversion".
Living in a converted garage is a great way to save cash for a house, whilst still having your independence.
As the cost of living crisis continues to bite, more and more adults are struggling to get on the property ladder and are choosing to live in their family home for longer.
The 2021 census revealed that over half of people aged 23 and under still live with their parents.
The average price of a house in the UK was £285,000 as of March 2023, and this rises to a whopping £735,254, which is completely unaffordable for many.
Moreover, research from the Resolution Foundation found that the average first time buyer deposit tripled from 5 per cent of the property price in 1989 to 15 per cent in 2019.
This means that buyers have to save for far longer and use up a larger percentage of their earnings to get on the property ladder.
Recent research by property site Zoopla found that 42 per cent of adults under 40 who do not already own homes have given up, due to the astronomical cost of buying a property.
