Whom is Lindsey Graham representing?

Regarding the Feb. 14 front-page article “Graham pulled toward isolationism by Trump”:

Sen. Lindsey Graham’s recent announcement — that he had “talked to President Trump ... and he’s dead set against” military aid to Israel and Ukraine — prompted me to look up the form of government of the United States and other Western democracies.

If the United States is indeed a representative democracy — like that of Britain, France and Germany — then whom exactly does Mr. Graham (R-S.C.) represent? The people of South Carolina? The Republican wing of the Senate? The United States? Or an unelected charlatan?

Mr. Graham’s withdrawal from the Munich Security Conference — a move probably demanded by the former president — is just the latest event in his long slide into irrelevance and obscurity. The United States deserves better representatives on the world stage.
