Middle East conflict live updates: Iran says it’s ‘not looking for war,’ as U.S. hints at response to Jordan attack

U.S. Central Command said it conducted strikes early Thursday against a Houthi UAV ground control station in Yemen and 10 Houthi drones. Centcom also said that a U.S. warship shot down a missile and three drones launched from rebel-controlled areas toward the Gulf of Aden on Wednesday night, as well as a missile on Tuesday night.
U.N. Secretary General António Guterres said Wednesday that “the binding decisions of the International Court of Justice must be complied with.” The ICJ last week ordered Israel to prevent the possibility of genocide in its war on Hamas, to allow more aid into Gaza and to sanction comments that could amount to incitement.
In response to questions about an Israeli raid on a hospital in the West Bank, U.S. State Department spokesman Matthew Miller said Israel “has the right to carry out operations to bring terrorists to justice, but those operations need to be conducted in full compliance with international humanitarian law.” Israeli agents disguised as medics and patients raided the hospital Tuesday, killing three Palestinian militants.
Secretary of State Antony Blinken met Wednesday with Dutch diplomat Sigrid Kaag, who was appointed on Dec. 26 by the United Nations to coordinate humanitarian relief in Gaza. The United States announced last week that it was suspending about $300,000 in scheduled funding to the lead humanitarian agency in Gaza, UNRWA, over allegations that about 12 of its staff members were involved in Hamas’s Oct. 7 attack on Israel.
At least 26,900 people have been killed and 65,949 injured in the Gaza Strip since the war began, according to the Gaza Health Ministry. Israel estimates that about 1,200 people were killed in Hamas’s Oct. 7 attack.
