I’m an interior designer – 5 things making your home look tacky… faux plants are a no-no & the cringe sign has got to go
AN INTERIOR designer has revealed the five things that are making your home look tacky.
So if you want your guests to be impressed when they walk into your space, you’ve come to the right place, and will need to listen up.
Shane, an interior designer and creative director from the United States, took to social media to share the interior items that have got to go, leaving many open-mouthed.
So prepare to be attacked if you’ve got faux plants or a Live, Love, Laugh sign in your home.
Posting online, Shane explained: “These are five things that are making your home look tacky and how to fix it.”
FAUX NO!
Shane revealed that faux plants need to be ditched immediately, as she claimed: “Unless you're staging a home to be sold, we need to retire the faux plants.”

Not only did she claim that they make your home look tacky, but she described them as an ‘investment’ too.
If you want to have plants in your home, and are looking to save some money, Shane advised swapping them for live, low maintenance plants, such as eucalyptus.
DISH OFF
If you are someone who washes up their dinner and leaves cutlery and plates on a drying rack, you’ll need to have a re-think, as according to Shane, this is not a good look.
She added: “Stop leaving dishes on your sink. It's making it look tacky.”
Instead, she stressed the importance of washing dishes, drying them and putting them away immediately.
Alternatively, she advised those with a dishwasher to let the kitchen gadget ‘do the work’.
BATHROOM BLUNDER
Not only this, but according to Shane, if you leave your wet towels hung over your shower or sink, you are not only making your home look tacky, but gross too.
The interior pro advised: “Stop leaving your personal bath towels thrown over the shower or hanging from your sink.”
Instead of this, she advised people to hang them on a rack or put them directly into the washing machine.
TABLE FAIL
If you bought into the recent coffee table book trend, prepare to be stunned.
Shane recommended: “If you have a Tom Ford coffee table book sitting on your table right now, get up and go throw it out.”

She claimed that instead of this generic book that can be found in many people’s homes, people should opt for a more ‘curated’ and ‘unique’ coffee table book.
SIGN FAUX PAS
Finally, Shane shared her honest thoughts on ‘Live, Laugh, Love’ and ‘Family’ signs, as she stressed that ‘it's time to do away’ with word signs.
Instead of these popular signs, Shane suggested opting for something more personal, for example family photos.
Not only this, but she explained that wallpaper would be another more unique solution than basic signage.
BIG DIVIDE
The TikTok clip, which was posted under the username @mildsauceshane, has clearly left many open-mouthed, as it has quickly racked up 412,200 views.
But social media users were left totally divided by Shane’s claims - and many took to the comments to share their thoughts.
