AN INTERIOR decorator has shared the six things that will instantly cheapen your home.
So if you’ve recently moved house, fancy giving your pad a makeover, or want to ensure that your home leaves guests impressed, you’ll need to listen up.
Julie Soussa took to social media to reveal the six ‘tacky’ things she would never buy - including labels and signage.
In her short clip, Julie said: “Things I would never buy as an interior decorator.
“These things cheapen a room. I have a running list, but here's the first [six].”
Faux no
First up, Julie shared her thoughts on faux trees, as she claimed: “Faux trees with large foliage just screams plastic.

“The secret to faux trees that look realistic is smaller foliage.
“Avoid plastic. Real is always best, but understanding that some areas will not allow for real.”
Picture this
Not only this, but Julie then revealed her thoughts on unframed canvases, as she added: “They look cheap because they are cheaper.
“One of the ways to get the expensive look for less - DIY the frame.
“But you could also buy mass produced art and just paint right over it.”
Sign off
If you’ve got a ‘Live, Love, Laugh’ sign in your home, prepare to be attacked, as Julie shared: “Three is signage.
“Good design will spike your imagination and will make you wonder. Words do not leave you wondering anything.”
Couldn’t write it
Similar to this, Julie is also not keen on labels in homes, particular those above doors.
She confessed: “Labels are the same. You should know where your pantry is, so there's no point of emphasising it.
“It just becomes a visual distraction.”
Loo knew?
When it comes to your bathroom, if you want a space that Julie would approve of, you’ll need to ensure that you haven’t got a rug around your loo.
Julie advised: “This one should go without saying - mats around the toilet.
“Having a bunch of rugs like this in general - not a good look.
“Now people are getting a little bit more creative with their rugs. And if you're gonna put one at all, make sure it's one larger rug and not several.”
Go for gold
Finally, if you’re a fan of gold furniture, you’ll need to pay attention.
Julie concluded: “Last is that fake, bright yellow, shiny gold.
“It’s understanding that most of us can't afford giant pieces of solid gold. But if you want it to look a little bit more realistic, lean into the golds that have this orange undertone.”
Big divide
The TikTok clip, which was posted under the username @the_avantgarde, has clearly left many open-mouthed, as it has quickly racked up a whopping 190,800 views in just one day.
But social media users were left totally divided by Julie’s claims - while some couldn’t agree more, not everyone was on the same page.
One user wrote: “I hate those labels! So tacky.”

A second chimed in: “Omg yessss to everything you’ve said!”
Whilst someone else penned: “I DESPISE live laugh love homes. There I said it.”
Meanwhile, another wrote: “Your design tips are always on point.”
However, at the same time, many people agreed with Julie, particularly on her distaste for unframed canvases.
