The man alleged he was adopted two minutes after his birth, and has been married to his wife for six years.

The couple have two kids together, and the wife realised she needed a new kidney after she got sick following their son’s birth.

He shared how they had "checked with her relatives and none were a match or a viable donor.”

Understandably, he wanted to find a way to help, and so got tested to see if he would be a match.

He shared: "I knew it would be a long shot so I decided to get tested to see if I could donate. I got a call the other day saying that I was a match.

“The doctor then said something about wanting to do additional testing due to some information from the HLA (human leukocyte antigen) tissue test results.

“I didn't think much of it and agreed.”

When the results came back, the dad learned that he and his wife shared an "abnormally high match percentage.”

He continued: "I was shocked and confused.

"He explained that because of how DNA information is passed down through generations a parent to a child could have at least a 50 per cent match and siblings could have a 0-100 per cent match.

"It was rare to have a high match as husband and wife. I asked what does that mean."

In his anonymous post on Reddit, the man explained how he had met his wife eight years ago when he travelled away from his hometown for work.

After they met, they exchanged numbers and then met up each time he visited her state.

I'm pregnant with a baby that's not biologically mine - people ask the same questions all the time, but no, I'm not a surrogate

When work gave him the opportunity to transfer permanently, he took them up on the offer, but they had no idea what they’d later discover.

The man shared: "We're related - no, I'm not kidding.

“I don't know what to do moving forward but I know it may be wrong.

Meanwhile, one clinical laboratory scientist added: “You might be biological siblings, you might be cousins, or the doctor could be wrong.”

And some questioned the validity of the post, with one writing: “[Her parents] literally could be his long-lost birth parent and yet he doesn't seem curious at all.”
