‘It’s a competition for the cr***est substitutes’ ex ASDA worker says as woman gets turkey dinosaurs instead of a turkey

SUPERMARKET shoppers have been left frustrated with what they’ve been given in their online shop thanks to substitution fails.

And it seems like Asda has been one of the top offenders, as many customers took to social media to reveal what was in their shopping basket after the store ran out of one item and gave them another instead.

One woman called Beth posted a video on TikTok where she ran through her initial shopping list that she’d bought from Asda.

She then updated her 178k followers with what she was being offered to her instead – and left everyone in stitches.

Beth, who can be found at @beth.doh, explained: “So instead of getting a German style salami and cheese selection, we’re getting bread rolls.

“And instead of getting soft cheese and herb olives, we’re getting a pack of mozzarella.”

Other notable swaps Beth revealed included Bramley apple and cranberry braised extra special red cabbage for plain white cabbage.

Asda also let her know they’d be delivering their 15p brussels sprouts in place of their sweet and nutty trimmed version of the vegetable.

But one of the ones that left her scratching her head the most was that they had ordered a pack of chicken skewers – and were getting a pack of cheese sticks.

In the background of the video the woman filming Beth could be heard saying: “No, I don’t want any of this stuff.”

The pair then giggled as they read down and found out they were getting a pack of macaroni instead of cauliflower cheese and a festive pasty in place of Christmas sausage rolls.

She then said: “Oh my God, I’m really upset.”

And even though they attempted to cancel the order and shop elsewhere, it seemed it had already been packed for delivery.

However, that was nothing in comparison to what others said they'd received in their online delivery, as they took to the comment section to have their say.

One person slammed supermarkets in general as they wrote: “Exact reason I just go to the shop!”

One more said: “I ordered 4 iced donuts from Asda bakery. They substituted it for an inflatable donut ring for the pool.”

While another added: “Asda substitutions are SOMETHING ELSE” alongside a laughing emoji face.

While many more said the Christmas rush had left them with an order made up of a lot of replaced items.

But one woman won the biggest substitute fail of the festive season when she claimed her pal’s Christmas turkey had been swapped out for an entirely different type of meat.

One person commented on the video: “My friend got turkey dinosaurs instead of her actual turkey.”

Another added: “We got turkey mince – could have at least swapped it for a whole chicken.”

Those who said they have worked for the supermarket in the past then lifted the lid on what they claim to have seen happen behind-the-scenes when it comes to online deliveries.

One woman wrote: “I can confirm (having worked for Asda home/ shopping) they the staff have a laugh/ competition for the cra***** substitutions! Enjoy!”

While someone else typed: “I’m an Asda driver and believe you me, these are the only things that get me through the day.”

Meanwhile, other savvy shoppers pointed out that you can choose not to accept the new items, or simply return the substitutions for a full refund.

Asda’s website also warns shoppers of potential item swaps when they are out of stock.

It reads: “We always try our best to stock all your favourite things, but all the products we sell are subject to availability. We will tell you about any substitutes in your Order Receipt which we’ll email to you on the day your order is due.

“If something you have ordered is not available when we pick your order, we may choose a substitute. If it costs less, we charge you less. If it costs more, we won’t charge you the extra.
