See-through bottoms, boobs falling out & severe wedgies… what happened when I swam 10 laps in skimpy Love Island bikinis

IT'S not just the steamy trysts and love triangles which have caught fans' attention on Love Island All Stars.

Viewers are going crazy over the contestants’ jaw-dropping swimwear - which seems to get more skimpy every series.

Experts reckon the infamous ITV2 dating show could be behind a surge in Brits buying swimwear in January, with sales for bikinis up a whopping 90 per cent, according to research from Simply Be.

While there’s no doubt the islanders look great lounging around the pool in their cutaway cossies, just how practical are they to swim in?

Brave Roxy Sullivan, 34, a personal trainer and triathlete from Bristol, put them to the test by swimming 10 lengths, doing a mixture of front crawl, backstroke and breaststroke.

She marked each costume out of five on style, comfort and durability - and it delivered some surprising results…

Roxy says: “This was surprisingly comfortable to swim in but then I looked down and noticed my right boob had fallen out after six lengths.

"Style-wise, Molly’s is one of my favourites, but I wouldn’t wear it on a beach as I’d end up with some pretty extra tan lines.”

Roxy says: “When I saw Hannah’s bonkers cossie on telly I was afraid to walk in it, let alone swim in it!

"I thought it was going to fall apart as soon as I got into the pool.

"But it was surprisingly sturdy and after 10 lengths of breaststroke, back crawl and front crawl it stood the test of time.”

Roxy says: “After 10 lengths this cutaway costume is still on (just about) but it has fallen down a bit at the front, almost revealing my lady garden.

"I've also got a bit of a weird one-sided wedgie which isn’t a great look. I’m not sure Kaz's two-piece would have survived much longer.”

Roxy: “I love the look of Demi's cossie, it's sexy and classy - until you swim in it!

"My boob popped out after just one length of back crawl and my other popped out shortly after! It also gave me a proper wedgie.

“If I wore this down to my local leisure centre I’d definitely give the grannies a heart attack! Ladies, this is purely for posing in.”

Roxy: “I don’t really like bikinis with drawstrings at the side because they aren’t very sturdy and normally come undone when you’re swimming.

"While I love the skimpy, sexy look I didn’t have high hopes for this one - and I was proven right!

"After 10 lengths the front of the pants have gone all puffy and it looks like a nappy. I thought it was going to fly off any minute so Georgia's bikini is a no from me.”

Roxy: “The bottoms are making my bum very confused. It’s not quite a thong and not quite a brief.

"My bum doesn’t know if it’s coming or going and it was trying to escape the whole time I was swimming, which was very off putting!

"Style-wise, Liberty's is one of my favourites as I feel very glamorous in it. But the bottoms are too precarious for my liking and they were hanging on for dear life at the end of 10 lengths.”
