Businessman Hamish McDonald, 56, revealed the plans, which would make it the first of it's kind for the city.

He told local paper Press & Journal: "What I am proposing is something that the Aberdeen coastline doesn’t have.

"Since Covid, there has been a move to UK holidays and Aberdeen does not cater to this with holiday lodge accommodation."

He added that it could bring as much as £4.25million in tourist spending to the area.

However, despite plans to build it along the Esplanade, the local council refused to sell the land to him for the resort.

Despite this, Mr McDonald is now looking for another area to build the huge park after spending "considerable time and effort" on the plans and wants to make the most of the beautiful beaches in the area.

He added: "Aberdeen is lagging behind. There are dozens of other coastal locations, and this was a chance for Aberdeen to put itself back on the map as a tourist destination."

In the 1950s, Aberdeen was seen as the "leading holiday resort," in Scotland.

However, this was killed of by the cheap overseas package holidays of the 1960s and 1970s.

Despite this, Brits are once again flocking to the UK coastline, with a number of seaside towns seeing a revivial.

The Sun's Head of Travel Lisa Minot said: "We've still got - as we saw in the pandemic - a real demand to explore our own coastline.

"It needs investment and quirky thinking."

And author of The Seaside: England's Love Affair Madeleine Bunting also backed this up.

She told Sun Online Travel: "A lot of these places are really beautiful places to live, and there is no reason now why these cities can't reimagine a new future for themselves."

And Aberdeen is also undergoing a huge multi-million pound seafront renovation over the next 20 years, named the Beach Masterplan.

First announced in 2021, works have started on one of the £48million attractions.

This includes a huge "rope factory" playpark with climbing structures as tall as 80ft, slides and swings.
