First up, she begins by explaining how they tracked their spending meticulously.

"I actually don't track my spending anymore however during that time period, it was so important for me to have an understanding of exactly how much money was coming into my bank account and how much was leaving," she says, in a clip shared to TikTok (@mohaewithjennypark).

"Especially across the categories of essentials, lifestyle and debt.

"It's wild how much money you can spend without even realising it, if you're not paying attention."

Jenny goes on to explain that the second thing they did was they increased their income.

"When we moved from Minnesota to San Francisco, it was because we had a huge opportunity to increase our income and we took all that extra discretionary money and threw it to our debt," she explains.

The money-saving whizz says the third step they took was to pay above the monthly minimums and use the 'snowball method' - where you prioritise smallest debt to biggest.

"If you want to get rid of your debt, you have to pay above the monthly minimum," she notes.

The fourth thing she did was unfollow every single influencer that was "promoting consumption and shopping."

Jenny adds: "I also unsubscribed from every single brand email that offered coupons."

The money-saving guru explains that instead, she followed every single influencer she could who was promoting a debt-free lifestyle or wealth building mindset which helped her to "normalise this new lifestyle into my brain."

Next, she goes on to say how they lived below their means.

"My lifestyle during that time was king of intense," she admits.

"We didn't really go out to eat, we didn't really go on holiday, we didn't shop a lot.

"And I know that sounds really extreme but for me I needed that laser focus intensity to really get to this milestone, which is really helpful to propel me into this new financial journey."

And last but not least, she says they celebrated and gamified the experience.

"Every £3.9k that we paid off, we celebrated and it made the whole experience like a game that we're trying to win together."

The post has since gone viral, racking up thousands of views and comments from very impressed social media users.

"Thank you so much," praised one.

A second penned: "Love this and love the honesty keep it coming."

A third commented: "I unsubscribed to SO many shopping emails and took on a side-hustle!"
