Amazon ‘makes last-minute bid to buy TikTok’ as app faces US ban in 3 days if it doesn’t cut ties with Chinese owner
AMAZON has reportedly made a last-minute bid to purchase TikTok as a ban of the popular Chinese-owned platform in the United States approaches.
Leaders in Washington DC have voiced their concerns that TikTok poses a national security risk due to its ownership by Beijing technology company, ByteDance.
Hours after taking office in January, President Donald Trump signed an executive order delaying the federal ban on TikTok.
The order extended a potential sale of TikTok, which had a January 19 deadline to sell the company to a US-owned entity or face a complete ban in the country, for 75 days.
However, the 75 days are up on April 5, and TikTok remains silent on a potential US sale.
Amazon made an eleventh hour offer to acquire all of TikTok, The New York Times reported on Wednesday.

The bid came in the form of a letter addressed to Vice President JD Vance and Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick, the outlet reported.
But various parties involved in the talks do not appear to be taking the e-commerce giant's offer seriously, according to The New York Times.
