I’m broke but trolls come after me as I still get hair and makeup done – I even manage to get beauty treatments too

THE cost of living is currently affecting everyone's pockets.

With price hikes on nearly everything from food, to clothes, electrical items and bills, Brits are having to watch their spending with an eagle eye.

Zara Victoria is one young woman who has had to switch up her spending habits in order to survive.

She has had to learn how to budget for that “rare social occasion” as well as how to keep up with her beauty regime.

Taking to TikTok, Zara has created her page to help others when it comes to “trying to figure out life.”

But the young woman has had some backlash from people who don’t believe that she is struggling, purely because she has her hair and makeup done.

Some people think she has “lots of money” because of it, but Zara has managed to find a way to look after herself, even though she is strapped for cash.

In one video, she said: “There’s been quite a few comments saying, ‘oh of course you’re not struggling for money because you wear makeup and you go and get your hair done clearly. So you must have lots of money.’

“The thing is, that assumption in itself just kind of completely proves my point about people judging everything based on a three minute video.

“However, I do have some tips for anybody who struggles to pay for things, like getting your hair done or buying makeup.

“If you have any family members or friends who buy you gifts for your birthday or Christmas, I know that isn’t the case for everybody.

“Rather than them just getting you things, which I know I’ve touched upon so many times that just don’t make me happy.

“Perhaps ask for a contribution to something that you know is going to make you feel better, or make you feel a little bit pampered.

“Because that’s what I do. Because I know that it is so expensive and I don’t just have the funds to just ‘throw away’ without getting myself into serious trouble.

“I’ll just ask for a contribution and then I have a pot for like, hair pot, or like makeup pot.

“And then it just then helps manage things throughout the year.

“If people don’t do that, or have never thought to do that. I would really recommend it.

“I got to the point in my life where I was like, I can’t just open an Argos catalogue anymore and circle toys and things that I want and I just don’t need things anymore.

“I’ve learnt my lesson. They’re not necessities.

“But things that make us feel a little bit pampered, are a little bit special when we need the break.

“I think they’re experiences that are worth having.

“It really helps me, and it means that I have these pots that I can budget for rather than going into money that I don’t have.

“And as well, I really don’t spend that much money so that just really helps me throughout the year.

“It’s those little treats that really help, because we all like to look after ourselves don’t we?

“But quite often we feel like we can’t because we can’t justify the cost.

“So it’s all about balance.”

In another video, Zara revealed how she managed to attend her friend's birthday party which was hosted in a bar.

She filmed herself dressed up, but addressed the people who assume that she is going to go out and “spend a tonne of money and live an outgoing and exciting lifestyle.”

Zara revealed that she can’t afford to do the things like drinking, and going out but because it is her best friend's birthday she is “still going to turn up and drink water.”

She added: “And I’m fine with that, because the reason I am going is for her and no other reason.”

Answering people’s questions on how she can afford to get to the location, Zara replied: “Every month I budget a certain amount of money for travel to and from town.

“I had to phone my mum today and say ‘I’m really sorry I can’t see you, IJ usually see you on a Saturday but I just do not have enough money for fuel at the minute.”

Zara went on to say that her spending hacks are “just to look, and tweak things to suit what it is that you need to do.”

Her videos have attracted thousands of likes, with many rushing to the comments section to share their thoughts.

One wrote: “Darling. I applaud you for being so honest about this. We went on holiday at the end of last year and have had to love like this since.”

Another added: “People assume that if you are put together then that signifies wealth. In our house it means we are prepared and good with the funds we do have.”
