I tried TikTok’s £10 fleece-lined tights – they gave me stunning Barbie legs & a toasty bum but thigh rub was a killer
We’re in the middle of a cold snap but you don’t have to hang up your mini skirt just yet.
The latest viral craze is for £9.99 fleece-lined tights that promise to keep you toasty. Yasmin Harisha tries them out
IT’S cold, it’s wet and it’s windy.
To most people, that means hanging up their dresses and getting the trousers out.
But I detest having to do this. I’m a skirt girl.
I hate the feeling of having to yank a pair of tight jeans up, or sucking in my stomach while fastening the button, especially after the festive season.

But unfortunately, there’s only so much warmth a pair of tights can bring, and right now as Britain is gripped by sub-zero temperatures, the only priority is to keep warm.
Even with the poshest and most expensive pair of 50 denier tights, the cold chill will find a way through the little tiny holes.
So when Instagram served me adverts for fleece tights, I thought this could be the answer to my prayers — they look like sheer tights but have a hidden nude-coloured fleece lining.
Genius. I’m not the only one excited by this proposition.
The reviews for one brand called AMIYOYO on Amazon include “I love these tights, they’re warm and thick while giving the illusion of being sheer” and “very good quality and very comfortable to wear”. Surely, you can’t go wrong for £9.99.
However, I did notice that alongside these ones on Amazon are similar pairs by Wolford, known for its high-quality nylon and warmth, with prices between £45 and £100.
Other brands such as Calzedonia sell them too — those are £19.99.
A newbie to fleece tights, I started with the £9.99 pair.
Apparently they will keep us looking “sexy and elegant no matter how cold we are,” and are perfect for “tummy-shaping and control, butt-lifting and the perfect legs”.
Sounds like a no-brainer, right?
Getting ready for a day in the office, I knew it was going to be a long day as I was heading for dinner with friends after — plus it was Baltic outside.
The tights felt peculiar to touch — stretchy and plasticky.
As a size 10, I went for my usual size but when I looked in the mirror and measured them up against myself, they were extremely long — up to my armpits.
I am only 5ft 5in, and they are meant to be high-waisted so I figured that the length could work in my favour with shaping my body.
Hopping around
Once I’d examined the material and size, it was time to try on.
They were smooth but as I started to pull both sides up, they were very tight around my thighs and I had to do a hip jiggle, hopping around the room, to get them over my bum and waist.
I couldn’t quite get them to sit nicely between the top of the thighs.
On the plus side, my legs did look great — the sheerness and slickness of the material added an extra couple of inches on me.
I guess the best way to describe it is Barbie-style legs.
However, on closer inspection, the supposed skin-colour lining underneath the black nylon didn’t match my olive skin tone — the fleece was a bit too light and made me look whiter. They claim this is “one for all”, but the shade doesn’t seem very inclusive.
I styled them with a pair of heels, a mini and turtleneck top — and bingo.
Walking to the station, I was super-warm, cosy and barely felt a breeze. But for every couple of steps I could feel the tights begin to fall down, especially between the thighs.
And the thigh rub was a killer — talk about itchy and uncomfortable.
As I sat down on the train, I managed to discreetly sort myself out again and attempt to stretch the material out. It turns out, they are a bit like jeans. You need to wear them in.
Throughout the day, I found they certainly keep you warm like they claim to do — but sometimes, a little too warm.
I found myself getting hot and bothered while in the office. My legs started to feel quite sweaty and sticky — especially around the upper thigh area. As I walked around, I could feel the friction, which would make me cringe a little.
Pulling them up and down everytime I went to the toilet was a struggle too. I should have brought a bottle of talcum powder with me.
Trying to move my hips to squeeze back into the tights in a small cubical felt like a workout.
Once work had finished, I headed out into town to catch up with some friends.
And I was greeted with lots of compliments about how great my legs were looking.
I replied, saying it was all thanks to these tights.
But as the night came to a close, I couldn’t wait to get them off me.
I felt clammy — I really needed them off.

They are great for keeping you warm, but I couldn’t bring myself to wear these daily.
For £9.99, these are worth the investment for the odd occasion but they haven’t completely knocked my socks off.
