Mystery after woman in her 30s found dead next to abandoned car in country lane – as cops launch murder probe
A WOMAN in her 30s has been found dead next to an abandoned car in a country lane, as cops launch a murder investigation.
The grim find was made yesterday evening near to Whaddon Lane, Owslebury, Hampshire.
The woman's body was found lying next to an abandoned black car.
Forensic officers and uniformed police are at the scene gathering evidence as the investigation continues.
Flowers have already been left at the scene.
One villager, who asked not to be named, told the Daily Echo: "This is really sad for the family involved but also very concerning for our community.
"We are a close-knit village and as soon as we saw the police car racing through the village on Tuesday evening we knew something was wrong.
"Our village fete takes place on Sunday and I am sure all of our thoughts will be with those involved in this sad discovery."
A woman who lives nearby, who also asked not to be named, said: "I just heard about it, it's terrible. It's not something you think will happen just down the road."
While another villager told the local paper: "I hadn't heard anything about it. It's not good. I'm more surprised than scared.
"This is a small village, usually the biggest news is when the goats get out."
A spokesperson for Hampshire Police said: "We were called at 5.51pm on Tuesday 3 September after the body of a woman in her 30s was found near to Whaddon Lane, Owslebury.
"A homicide investigation has been launched to establish the cause of her death, but officers are keeping an open mind at this early stage of our enquiries.
"The woman has not been formally identified, but her next of kin have been informed and are being supported by specialist officers.
"Officers will be in the area conducting enquiries, if you have any concerns please speak to us.
