We didn’t have enough cash to buy our dream home so bought an ugly bungalow & gave it an epic glow-up – we saved so much
A WOMAN has revealed that she and her partner didn’t have enough money to buy their dream home, so instead they bought an ugly bungalow and gave it a transformation themselves.
Laura Reynolds and her partner Ed explained that they gave their run-down bungalow a mega new look and overhauled it into a stunning two-storey house with a beautiful balcony.
Showing off their impressive home makeover on social media, Laura wrote: “When you don’t have loads of money to pay someone to make your dream home…I’ll do it myself.”
She then claimed: “Our renovation journey. So lucky and grateful to have had this opportunity.”
Following this, the DIY enthusiast, who works in insurance claims, explained: “October 2020, we bought this bungalow and turned it into this two-storey house.
“We completely gutted the house, knocked down nine walls, and then we started on the garden whilst we were waiting for planning permission. We found so many different things in that shed.

“We put up two RSJ [beams] all by ourselves - well, there was four of us.
“Once the planning came in we wasted no time by taking off the old roof and putting the new one on. This is basically where we turned it into a house.
“We were still in a complete building site. We had to get all the walls up inside, plasterboard.”
Laura then gave her followers a close-up look at the inside of the once very tired bungalow, which was now being transformed into a gorgeous home, as she added: “Then the kitchen started going in. I painted the whole house whilst Ed tiled it all. He’s never done tiling before and honestly, it looks unbelievable.
“This is when we could properly start making it our home. We added in all the internal furnishings, I did some more decorating.
“Then it got rendered and cladded. This is basically the finished look on the outside.
“We’re really happy with it and we can now sit on our balcony and enjoy it all.”
Laura and Ed’s home has since been transformed from a rundown bungalow to a stunning, extremely modern home.
But not only do the couple have a home that you’d expect to find in a fancy interiors magazine, but they also saved a lot of money by doing the work themselves.
Laura explained that her partner Ed is a plumber, but was able to do a lot of the work on their home.
She later revealed that they spent a rough total of £100,000 on the home’s renovation, as she shared: “We saved so much by doing what we could ourselves.
“He’s a plumber by trade but he will get stuck into anything!!
“We haven’t had it valued recently but last time it was valued it was £340k.”
Not only this, but the DIY whizz shared that she is over the moon with her new home, as she claimed: “We are super chuffed with it. We are very proud.
“One crazy journey!! It is a dream.”
The TikTok clip, which was posted under the username @laureynoldsxx, has clearly left many totally stunned, as it has quickly gone viral and has since amassed 1.2 million views.
Social media users were left open-mouthed at the couple’s new home and many took to the comments to congratulate them on their hard work.
One person said: “Aww this is amazing, love it, well done on you both, it looks phenomenal, I love it.”
Another added: “Fab transformation.”
A third commented: “That is like a dream house and it’s come from a basic bungalow. Awesome work.”
At the same time, someone else penned: “Absolutely brilliant job! You’ve made that house happy again I reckon.”
To this, Laura confirmed: “We have, deffo a happy home.”
Meanwhile, even Laura and Ed’s neighbours admitted that they were impressed.
One user penned: “Been watching your progress every time I drive down the road.”
Whilst a second chimed in: “Looks lovely, much better. I go past the house everyday and the transformation is amazing.”
