I bought my grandparents’ old house and did it up for the first time in 25 years – I used bargain buys from Amazon
A WOMAN has revealed that she and her partner bought her grandparents’ old house and have since given it a mega makeover.
Ellie Cover and her boyfriend bought the home, which hadn’t been renovated in 25 years, as their first home together.
But the pair were keen to give the home some love - and proudly took to social media to show off their DIY hallway transformation, leaving many totally stunned.
Ellie shared a clip online with the caption ‘Never get bored of this’, as she gave her followers a close-up look at the home’s staircase.
With dated carpet and tired flooring, Ellie and her partner got to work on giving the home some much-needed TLC.
Posting online, Ellie said: “POV: You and your partner bought your grandparents’ old house when they passed away and turned the hallway from this…”

As Ellie showed off the old-fashioned stairs, she added: “Carpet was 25 years old and very old-fashioned.”
Seconds later, we saw the home’s finished look, as Ellie beamed: “Into this.”
The staircase has now been totally transformed and not only had the old carpet been ripped up and thrown away, it had also been replaced with a lick of paint and a stylish grey and black stair runner.
The floors were finished with a grey carpet to match and the walls were also given an upgrade too with some trendy panelling.
Not only this, but Ellie also gave a glimpse at the home’s hallway, which was furnished with a stylish white cabinet.
As well as this, we also saw a quick look at the couple’s bathroom, which looked very stylish with stick-on tiles.
Ellie later explained that she and her partner bought their stair runner from Carpet Right, whilst Ellie explained that for the panelling, they used a ‘polished pebble’ paint from Dulux.
For the bathroom, Ellie used stick-on floor tiles from Amazon and not only this, but she also bought a white cabinet, which she placed at the bottom of the stairs, which was also from Amazon.

In a follow-up clip, Ellie went into further details about the cost of her hallway’s renovation.

The panelling cost £200 for the labour and £75 for materials and they spent £53 on white and grey paint.
Not only this, but the carpet stair runner, including the fitting costs, came to £725 whilst she spent £35 on her DIY mirror.
To get the lighting changed to a chandelier cost £45 and in total, the hallway’s new look cost £1,433.
Ellie then added: “Plus about five weekends to finish it.”
