This is exactly what happened to one TikTok user only known as @hausonthetyne who's found a number of ''cool'' items and ''antiques'' in their early 1900s terraced house.

As well as stumbling across an old Evening Chronicle newspaper edition from 1892, as well as National Registration Identity Card dated 1940, the TikTok user also recently made another discovery.

As the new occupants have decided to renovate the property, they've been spending a lot of time working on the house - and were pleasantly surprised by what had been hiding behind a board around the staircase.

After ripping it off, @hausonthetyne, from Tynemouth, the UK, the craft fanatics were amazed, as they realised the stunning property had come with the original Victorian spindles.

''Ahh, look at that,'' the DIY enthusiasts couldn't believe their eyes in the now-viral video.

To get rid of the board attached on top, they first tried kicking it off with their feet - however, quickly realised that wasn't working and grabbed a crowbar instead.

One by one, the bits of the light cream board had come off, and the homeowners were amazed to see that all of the wooden spindles were still ''intact'' after all this time.

''Before or after finding original Victorian spindles on our staircase?'' they wondered in the caption.

Wondering as to why the stunning spindles were covered, the TiKTok account reckoned it must've been a house trend back in the day.

''Deemed as unfashionable back in the 60s/70s, we guess. Crazy.

I hated the grey in my kitchen so transformed it using a bargain find from Poundland - it cost me less than £40 and I love how it looks now

''Honestly, it was just a spontaneous idea one morning. Since we're already renovating, we didn't hesitate to rip it off!''

Since making the incredible discovery, they also can't believe the different the spindles have made, making the area feel ''so nice and light''.

Needless to say, it wasn't just them obsessed with the original staircase feature, as hundreds raced to comments to share their thoughts.

One person said: ''I’m so glad they covered them instead of ripping them out!''

Someone else was baffled, not entirely sure why the previous homeowner had decided to stick a board on top.

''Can you imagine being the person who covered these, and thinking 'Yep, looks lovely and modern now'.''

''WHAT WERE THEY THINKING!'' a third was just as lost for words.

''Like did they say Let’s cover the gorgeous Victorian beauty. It’s a pain to clean & we don’t have the money to move'?''
