I tried the cheapest dry shampoos on the high-street – one was totally sweat proof but the best bottle was just £1.85
WITH spring just around the corner, it’s likely your hairstyle and routine will change.
And along with a new set of highlights, you might be on the hunt for a new dry shampoo to tide you over between washes.
Not only does it keep greasiness at bay, a good dry shampoo will also preserve your style and provide an extra helping of volume when your tresses are lacklustre.
Picking the perfect formula for you makes all the difference, so I tested the cheapest dry shampoos on the high-street right now.
For context, I have medium-thickness hair with minimal texture and a tendency to get greasy around 24 hours after it's been washed.
Dry shampoo is one of my saviour products for between washes, so I’ve tried a few over the years.

Here’s how I rank the bargain ones you can snap up right now - and you’ll be pleased to know, they’re all under a fiver.
Lidl Cien Dry Shampoo
Price: £1.29
Rating: 5/10
What I loved: The citrusy scent of Lidl's dry shampoo was so fresh it could have passed as perfume. It worked well on my fringe as it gave some body to the otherwise wispy strands.
What I didn’t: The formula felt like it dried out my hair and left a pretty intense white cast that I spent a good few minutes brushing out.
Superdrug Dry Shampoo Coconut
Price: £3.49
Rating: 6/10
What I loved: Superdrug's coconut-scented dry shampoo had the nicest smell of all the ones I tested. It lasted over 24 hours in my hair before grease started creeping back in. It's also available in smaller sizes for cheaper, including £2.25 for 150ml and £2 for 50ml.
What I didn't: This product works so well because it's thick, meaning it offers a lot of hold to however your hair is styled when you spritz it. That meant I struggled to do a sleek bun the day after using it. I'd recommend this dry shampoo as one to tide you over before wash day.
Got2B Fresh It Up Volume Dry Shampoo
Price: £2.99
Rating: 6/10
What I loved: This shampoo left my hair feeling like silk - and it was totally undetectable once spritzed. It’s perfect for a quick refresh to see you through wash day.
What I didn’t: It didn’t give me much volume, despite being branded as such. My hair still looked pretty lifeless after applying it, but at least it felt silky.
Boots Everyday Blossom Dry Shampoo
Price: £1.60
Rating: 7/10
What I loved: Boots' dry shampoo instantly absorbed all the excess oil on my roots. And yet, it has such a lightweight formula. It left no white flecks and left my hair feeling super smooth after using it.
What I didn’t: It didn’t give me that just-washed feeling that I crave from dry shampoo. My locks still felt flat after using, so this is another dry shampoo I'd recommend to tide you over before wash day.
Primark PS... Invisible Dry Shampoo
Price: £1.45
Rating: 7/10
What I loved: Primark's 'invisible' dry shampoo was developed specifically to not leave that dreaded white cast on your locks. The formulation is particularly great for those with dark hair like me, as not a single fleck of residue was visible.
What I didn’t: It combatted greasiness really well but didn’t do much for volume, so my hair still looked and felt lacklustre after using it. This would be a great dry shampoo to use when tying your hair back with a claw clip.
Batiste 24H Active Sweat Activated Dry Shampoo
Price: £4.59
Rating: 9/10
What I loved: Batiste dry shampoos are iconic for a reason; they really do what they promise on the tin. And the new 24h Active formula is no different. This dry shampoo is the ultimate refresher and perfect for workouts. Even after a sweaty Pilates session, my hair felt like it’d been freshly washed.
What I didn’t: It has a higher price point than others on the market. Boots' dry shampoo is just 80p per 100ml, whereas this one is £2.30 per 100ml.
Sainsbury's My Hair Matters Bloom Dry Shampoo
Price: £1.85
Rating: 10/10

What I loved: You could have told me this was a professional dry shampoo and I would have believed you. It absorbed all the excess oil in my T-section and left my locks looking freshly washed. It even survived a whole day of running around London, with my hair still looking fresh come 6pm.
What I didn’t: The formula had a strong smell to it which I’d definitely tone down.
