The £14 blow dry tool that creates ‘magical curls’ – but some people insist it’s ‘only for grannies’
AN AMERICAN hair stylist has left British women grimacing after endorsing a £14 “British blow dry” tool.
Matt Newman claimed a certain heated styler creates “magical” curls… but Brits have insisted it’s “only for grannies”.
The hair expert, also known as Matt Loves Hair, shared a tutorial using the Revlon Tangle Free Hot Air Styler, dubbing it a “British blow dry brush”.
He picked up the tool for £13.99 in Boots and questioned: “Why don’t we have these in America?”
Matt demonstrated how to create tight ringlets with the heated styler on TikTok but received an influx of comments from confused Brits.
And it wasn’t just those saying the tool is “only for grannies” - some revealed that it “traumatised” them as teenagers.

“So many girls in the UK got our hair all tangled [in that] as a teen and are still traumatised,” Sian Purs penned.
“I still have one of these stuck in my hair from 2004,” Megan Linds echoed.
But the most recurring comment from British women was that their first encounter with one of the tools was in their grandma’s bedroom… and it wasn’t a pretty sight.
“I’m a British girl and my nan had one of these when I was growing up,” Anna Carey said.
“I remember it yanking at my scalp as a kid and getting tangled in it.”
Another woman joked that she can “still feel the pain of getting her grandma’s stuck in her hair”.
Louise Kirk explained that her nan, who’s in her Seventies, has “always done her hair” with the tool.
“My grannny loves hers,” Olivia Leigh added.
“We get her a new one every couple of years because she uses it so much.”
According to Revlon bosses, the “versatile styler is perfect for giving body to any hair style”.
It has two heat and speed settings for drying and flexible styling.
There’s also two brush attachments: a 19mm one for tighter curls and waves in shorter hair styles, and a 25mm one to create full curls and waves in all hair styles.
It seems Revlon has updated the design of its iconic brushes, which shoppers claim date back to the Seventies, as the tool recommended by Matt has a “curl release switch” to ensure tangle-free curls.
