Are you taxed on side hustle earnings?

Plenty of households are taking on side hustles such as babysitting or setting up an eBay store to boost their earnings.

And luckily, you can use a "trading allowance" which means you don't have to pay tax on any yearly gross income of £1,000 or less.

However, if you do earn over the £1,000 threshold, you will have to declare it to HMRC.

You can claim a trading allowance via Self-Assessment on the Government's website.

First you need to inform them you're a sole trader and tell them how much you earn in income, when you started and who you are.

HMRC will then send you a UTR number which you can use to submit a Self-Assessment tax return.

The tax year runs from April 6 to April 5 of the following year, and the deadline to pay is the following January 31.

"Sometimes you don't even need to fold".

Carol explained that you don't even need a fancy new washing machine to do the side hustle, and described hers as ancient.

She said that she find her laundry clients through apps, such as Hampr.

You don't need any qualifications or certifications to sign up to the app, and can work from the comfort of your own home.

Carol said that she often gets tips from her clients, which she said makes the side hustle "really worth doing".

She added that some customers even provide her with detergent, so she doesn't even need to pay for that.

The laundry whizz advised that you need to be from a non-smoking home to carry out the side hustle, but said that pets are fine as long as you keep them away from the laundry.

"If you already know how to wash and dry clothes, this will be really simple for you", she said.

Carol said she charges around £20 per bag of laundry and added that if you live in a city, there are bound to be loads of customers nearby who want to use your services.

The laundry whizz's video has likely left many impressed, as it has racked up over 60,000 followers.

TikTok users raced to the video's comments section to share their thoughts on Carol's hack.

One user said: "I'd love to do this as a side hustle".

Another user said: "This sounds great".

A third user added: "I do this but not via an app, just through word of mouth in my small town.
