I’m an expert car mechanic… premium fuel can be expensive but there’s a reason why I recommend it

A CAR expert has told motorists that using premium fuel will result in a better and more effective engine.

A TikTok channel called Walsallwood_tyre has explained even though premium fuel is more expensive it's worth the price.

The channel has over 114,000 followers and two million likes and is dedicated to giving tips to motorists helping them save money and improving their overall driving experience.

In the video, car expert Craig is asked: "Onto premium fuels, is V power worth it?"

Craig responds, saying: "Ooo sounds expensive."

He later adds: "Longterm use yes, V powered is better than your standard fuel."

Craig explains the benefits premium fuel has for your motor over standard fuels.

He said: "Higher octane fuels give better performance, a bigger bang and cleaner combustion.

Craig added: "So, they keep your engine cleaner, save you miles per gallon, and make them go a little faster."

Craig also addresses criticism motorists have made about premium fuel not affecting their car's performance.

He says to get the results from premium fuel drivers must use it regularly.

In the video, he says: "A lot of people are going to say - I used V power last week and it didn't make a difference but I only stuck a tenner on top of my normal stuff that was in there.

"To get the benefits of the V power and the momentum 99s you need to be using these fuels all the time."

He later added: "A lot of racers out there with more high-performance engines will know that they can only run their cars on those kind of fuels."

Craig's subscribers were quick to agree and shared their own experiences with using premium fuels in the comments.

One viewer wrote: "I've been using it for the last 6.5 years on my Volvo 1.6D, its £0 road tax so don't mind spending extra few £ per week."

Another said: "I see slightly better fuel efficiency and power, I've been going back and forth for a while trying to see for myself and it does slightly improve."

However, not all of the TikTokers fans were on board with premium fuel.

Premium fuel can cost 10p and sometimes 30p more per litre than standard fuels.

One person wrote: "Is it better? Yes... Is it worth it? No."

Another added: "What's not to like... the price."
