I gave my son a unique name – trolls call it ‘absolutely ridiculous’ & say he’ll be bullied but I don’t believe it

A MUM who gave her son an incredibly unique name has hit back at trolls who say he'll be bullied in the future.

Rachael is a mum-of-five, and all of her children have monikers that can be considered more on the unusual end of the scale.

However, she insisted in a video on her TikTok page that it's becoming more normal for children to have unique names, so she doesn't think it's going to cause her son issues as he grows up.

"We gave our fifth son a very unusual name," she said.

"It's really very uncommon here in the UK. I've never come across another child with the same name before.

"When we named him, we had a few comments about how different his name is and some people even said that he could possibly be bullied for it in the future.

"And honestly, I don't think that will ever happen. Kids today just don't care.

"They really don't. It's a different generation. Totally.

"I can tell you so many unusual names of my children go to school with that I've come across at the preschool that everywhere everyone has unusual names nowadays so that no name is unusual.

"The way that name trends are going, things are just set to get more and more unusual."

She continued to say that she's never met a child who doesn't suit their name, adding that her son suits his moniker Leaf Ocean perfectly.

"He's a gentle little soul and an absolute nature explorer, so I feel his name really suits him," Rachael gushed.

"We live by the sea, and during pregnancy, I spent a lot of time by the ocean.

"I found it very calming for my pregnancy, and it just felt like that should be part of his name."

All five of her sons have unique names - with her other sons called Jaxon, Noah, Cole and Bodhi.

Each moniker was inspired by films and TV shows, with Rachael responding to a comment to reveal that Leaf's was inspired by the name of one of River Phoenix's siblings.

"I just don't think in today's day and age that your child be bullied for their name," she concluded.

"And I think you have to have children of a certain age to agree with me."

People were quick to comment on the video, with many disagreeing with Rachael's mentality.

"Give me strength," one sighed.

"I feel like parents forget their kids grow up and have to live with these names!" another added.

"You named your son Leaf?" a third questioned.

"That would have been declined in Scotland, it's absolutely ridiculous!"

"Please wake up love," someone else wrote.

"He will be bullied for his name in time."

"'Kids today just don't care' have you met a teenager recently?" another commented.

"He's going to be BADLY bullied in high-school for that. Hope it was worth it!"

"It's when they get older that there's comments on names - children aren't as accommodating as you might want them to be," someone else said.

But others defended Rachael, with one writing: "Individuality is great!"

"I love your son's name, it's beautiful," another added.
